India: Students booked for waving flag resembling Pakistan's

Kozhikode (Ker), Sep 1 (PTI): Students of a college near Parambra waved a flag that resembled Pakistan's national flag during an election campaign on the campus and the police have on its own registered a case against them.

The green colour flag, which was similar to Pakistan's, was waved as part of a college election programme organised by the Muslim Students' Federation (MSF).

India: Man Held For Desecrating Temple to Incite Communal Tension

Sree Dharma Sastha Temple of deity Ayyappa was vandalised and human excret was thrown at in Kerala by Ramakrishnan on the night of August 26 to spark communal tension in the region.

Ramakrishnan is reportedly a close associate of the younger brother of Ayapunni, BJP’s local candidate for the panchayat election, reported The News Minute.

India: Dalit Christian honour killing: 10 get life sentence

Kottayam (Ker), Aug 27 (PTI) A court here on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to 10 people for the honour killing of a 23-year-old Dalit Christian man last year, which had triggered widespread protests across the state.

Principal Sessions Court Judge C Jayachandran convicted the 10 men under various sections of the IPC, including sections 302 (murder) and 364A (kidnapping for ransom), Special Public Prosecutor C S Ajayan told reporters here.

India: Teacher arrested for 'molesting' autistic boy

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 26 (PTI): A 50-year-old teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old autistic boy student, police said.

The accused Santosh Kumar used to teach mathematics to the child.

Kumar went absconding after the boy's parents lodged a complaint last month about the offence, the police said.

India: Ker man held for suspected terror links let off after 24 hours

Kochi, Aug 26 (PTI) A man who was taken into police custody over his suspected terror links was let off after a probe by various security agencies could not establish any such connection, sources said.

The man, along with a female friend, was taken into custody on Saturday.

India: 10 people convicted for honour killing of Dalit Christian

Kottayam (Ker), Aug 22 (PTI) Ten people were on Thursday convicted by a court here in the sensational murder of 23-year-old Dalit Christian Kevin P Joseph in 2018.

The Principal Sessions Court observed that the murder of Kevin, involving his wife's relatives, was a case of honour killing.

Those convicted included the brother-in-law of Kevin.The court acquitted four persons, including Kevin's father-in-law, citing lack of evidence.

India: IAS officer's driving license suspended over Journo's death

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 19 (PTI) The driving license of IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman was suspended on Monday by the state Motor Vehicles Department, two weeks after a car driven by him had hit and killed a journalist here.

The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) here suspended the license for one year in the wake of the accident, in which journalist K M Basheer had died at the spot after being hit by the luxury car driven by the officer allegedly in an inebriated condition.

India: Kerala to give Rs 10,000 to each flood affected family

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14; IANS/GANASHAKTI: Even as Kerala continues to reel under floods, the state government on Wednesday decided to give an immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 to each affected family, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here.

Addressing the media soon after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting, Vijayan said the damage that has been caused this year is much less compared to the last years.

India: Kerala rain fury: Toll rises to 59

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11 (PTI) The death toll in the monsoon fury in Kerala rose to 59 on Sunday with two bodies being recovered while there was a slight let up in the rains in some regions in the state, officials said.

According to official sources, one body each was recovered this morning from Kozhikode and Alapuzha districts, which are among the badly hit by the torrential rains since last week.
