AirAsia boosts regional inbound tourism in Malaysia’s Penang with new Bali route

GEORGE TOWN (Malaysia), Oct 12 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s northern state of Penang is set to receive more inbound travellers with the launch of AirAsia’s new direct route from Bali, scheduled to start on Oct 20 this year.

State Tourism and Creative Economy committee chairman, Yeoh Soon Hin said he was confident that the route would be popular and provide numerous benefits to the local communities through the multiplier effect of tourism spending as well as employment opportunities. 

Increasing phishing attacks in Malaysia, Southeast Asia — Kaspersky

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Phishing incidents continue to skyrocket in Southeast Asia with more than half of them targeting Kaspersky users in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam in the first half of 2022.

Four out of six countries from Southeast Asia  — Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam — saw phishing attacks exceeding last year’s activities, the cybersecurity company said in a statement Tuesday.

Malaysian PM dissolves parliament, calls for early national election

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the country's parliament on Monday, paving the way for national elections which must be held in the next 60 days.

In a televised speech, Ismail Sabri said he had received the consent of the country's King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah in accordance with the country's constitution.

Malaysia, Japan agree to upgrade relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia and Japan has agreed for the Strategic Partnership between the two countries to be upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, said Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Saifuddin said in order to coordinate the upgrade, Malaysia has started discussions at the official level by identifying areas of cooperation for the benefit of both countries.

Japanese FM to visit Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Oct 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah will host his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi during his two-day working visit to Malaysia starting Saturday.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this is Hayashi’s first visit to Malaysia since being appointed as Japan’s Foreign Affairs Minister in November 2021.

Both ministers are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to review the progress in furthering the long-standing and multi-faceted ties between Malaysia and Japan.

Malaysia plans smaller 2023 budget, goodies ahead of polls

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia plans record development spending in 2023 despite a proposed smaller national budget Friday that is also laden with the usual cash handouts, tax cuts and other goodies ahead of impending general elections.

Finance Minister Zafrul Aziz unveiled in Parliament a budget proposal of 372.3 billion ringgit ($80 billion), down from estimated spending of 385.3 billion ringgit ($85 billion) in the current year.

Malaysia Reported 2,445 New COVID-19 Infections, Two New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 2,445 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,837,005, according to the health ministry.

There are two new imported cases, with 2,443 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

Another two deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,365.

The ministry reported 1,613 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,775,927.

Saudi’s Vision 2030 Has Achieved Many Targets — Saudi Ambassador To Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Since the launching of Vision 2030 in 2016, the Saudi government has achieved many successes in the implementation of several basic reforms which in turn contributed to many other important achievements, said Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Malaysia Dr Mahmoud Hussein Saeed Qattan. 

These achievements included strengthening the status and role of the kingdomat the Islamic, regional and international levels and Saudi’s contributions and its leading role in the stability of global energy markets and the global economy.
