Malaysia's inflation remains unchanged at 4 pct in November

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's inflation rate, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), remained unchanged at 4 percent in November, official data showed Friday.

Inflation for the food group increased 7.3 percent and remained as the main contributor to the rise in the inflation for the month, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

Meanwhile, restaurants and hotels inflation edged up to 7 percent as against 6.8 percent in October.

EU, member states to mobilise €10 bln for ASEAN infrastructure investments

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (NNN-Bernama) — In commemorating the celebration of 45 years of cooperation between the European Union (EU) and ASEAN, the EU and its member states has announced a mobilisation of €10 billion as part of the Global Gateway to accelerate infrastructure investments in ASEAN countries.

This package will focus on the green transition and sustainable connectivity in Southeast Asia, underpinned by two Team Europe Initiatives, namely the Sustainable Connectivity Initiative and the Green Team Europe Initiative.

Malaysia detains two boats with 11 foreign anglers

GEORGE TOWN (Malaysia), Dec 18 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian authorities detained two boats with 11 foreign fishermen on board who did not possess any personal travel documents, during an inspection at Kendi Island off the southwest coast of Penang Island on Friday.

Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Director Capt Abd Razak Mohamed said the Maritime patrol vessel which was conducting an operation, first detained a class C fishing boat belonging to a local, 71 nautical miles west of Kendi Island at 1.50 pm.

Malaysia landslide death toll rises to 24, 9 more missing

BATANG KALI, Malaysia (AP) — Rescuers on Saturday found the bodies of a woman and two children, raising the death toll from a landslide on an unlicensed campground in Malaysia to 24 with nine others still missing.

Selangor state fire chief Norazam Khamis told reporters the bodies of a mother and son were found buried under a meter (3 feet) of mud and debris. The body of a little girl was discovered later. He said there was hope of finding survivors if they clung on to piles or branches or rocks with pockets of air but that chances were slim.

Malaysia looks forward to further strengthening economic cooperation with China: official

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia looks forward to further strengthening economic cooperation with China, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has said.

The collaboration between the two countries in various sectors will boost local industries and bodes well for bilateral trade and investment, Loke said in his opening speech at the 12th Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference (MCEC) on Thursday.

Landslide at Malaysia campground kills 18, leaves 15 missing

BATANG KALI, Malaysia (AP) — A thunderous crush of soil and debris killed 18 people at a campground in Malaysia on Friday, and rescuers dug through the mud for another 15 who were feared buried in the landslide.

More than 90 people were sleeping on an organic farm when the dirt tumbled from a road about 30 meters (100 feet) above the site and covered about 1 hectare (3 acres ). Two of the dead were found locked in an embrace, according to the state fire department chief.

Malaysia’s Natural Rubber Production Fell 10.3 Percent In Oct

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s natural rubber production decreased by 10.3 percent to 31,795 tonnes in Oct, from 35,460 tonnes in Sept, official data showed today.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that, the year-on-year comparison showed that the production of natural rubber fell 26.3 percent from 43,127 tonnes a year ago.

Meanwhile, exports of Malaysia’s natural rubber amounted to 41,548 tonnes in Oct, declined 23.8 percent as against 54,542 tonnes in Sept.

Malaysia’s Palm Oil Stocks Down 4.98 Percent Month On Month In Nov

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia, the world’s second-largest palm oil producer, saw its palm oil stocks slip 4.98 percent from the previous month, to 2.29 million tonnes in Nov, official data showed, today.

According to the data, from the industry regulator, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Malaysia’s crude palm oil production in Nov fell 7.33 percent month on month, to 1.68 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, palm oil exports rose 0.92 percent month on month, to 1.52 million tonnes.

Malaysia's unemployment falls to lowest in October since COVID-19 pandemic

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's unemployment fell to the lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic in October, reaching 602,000 persons, official data showed on Friday.

The unemployment rate in October remained at 3.6 percent, 0.3 percentage points higher than the pre-pandemic level of 3.3 percent in February 2020, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.

Malaysian PM Anwar receives courtesy call from Thai DPM

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Dec 8 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday received a visit from Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan at his official residence, Seri Perdana, here.

Prawit was accompanied by Thai Deputy Defence Minister Gen Chaichan Changmongko during the courtesy call.

Prawit and his delegation were received by Anwar, Defence Minister Mohamad Hasan and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail when they arrived at Seri Perdana at about noon.
