Pakistan's Imran Khan says his party to dissolve two local assemblies on Dec. 23

LAHORE, Pakistan, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Saturday that his party would dissolve two provincial assemblies next week, earlier than scheduled, in an attempt to build pressure on the federal government to hold early general elections.

Khan has campaigned for snap polls since being ousted from power in a parliamentary vote in April, which has heightened political uncertainty in the South Asian nation even as it struggles to stave off financial default.

Pakistan urges G-77’s lead role to promote systemic changes for revival of developing economies

NEW YORK, Dec 15 (APP): Pakistan on Thursday said that as the developing countries endeavored to recover from multiple crises, the Group of 77 and China must take the lead in promoting the systemic and structural changes needed to revive sustainable global growth.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also the host of the G-77 and China Ministerial Conference held here, in his opening statement, urged the body to induct equity in international economic relations and restore the developing economies on a path leading to realization of the SDGs and environmental objectives.

Pakistan: Cabinet gives go ahead to signing of Reko Diq final deal

ISLAMABAD, Dec 13 (APP): The federal cabinet on Tuesday formally accorded its approval to the signing of final deal over Reko Diq project, thus paving way for inking of the final agreement on December 15.

After the approval given to the ministry of petroleum and other relevant ministries and with its final signing, the agreement over Reko Diq project would be implemented.

China urges citizens to leave Afghanistan after Kabul attack

ISLAMABAD (AP) — China on Tuesday advised its citizens in Afghanistan to leave the country “as soon as possible,” following a coordinated attack by Islamic State militants the previous day on a Chinese-owned hotel in the heart of Kabul.

The Chinese advisory appeared to be a setback for Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers who seek foreign investments in hopes of halting the downward spiral of the Afghan economy since their takeover of the country more than a year ago.

1 killed, 10 injured in van-trailer collision in southern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and 10 others were injured on Sunday in a collision between a van and a trailer in Ghotki district of Pakistan's southern Sindh province, rescue workers reported.

According to the reports, the accident took place on the National Highway during the early morning hours when the van driver fell asleep, and resultantly the vehicle hit the trailer coming from the opposite direction.

Pakistan PM’s son returns from exile to face graft charges

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A son of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif returned home Sunday after four years in London to face corruption charges that were filed against him in 2020.

Suleman Shahbaz reached Islamabad early Sunday and then took a flight to his hometown of Lahore after meeting with his father at the prime minister’s residence, said Ata Tarar, a spokesman for Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League party.
