India: Rajasthan family slapped Rs 6.26 lakh fine for inviting over 50 guests in marriage function

Jaipur, Jun 27 (PTI) A fine of over Rs 6 lakh was slapped on a family in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district for inviting more than 50 guests in a marriage function amid the restrictions in place to combat the coronavirus threat, officials said on Saturday.

India: Rajasthan MLAs to stay put at hotel till RS election

Jaipur, Jun 15 (PTI) Congress general secretary Avinash Pande said on Monday that the legislators who are supporting the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan would continue to stay together at a hotel till the Rajya Sabha election due to the alleged poaching threat from the BJP.

Pande said the legislators had been staying like a family, adding that discussions on the future roadmap for the development of the state were being held at the hotel.

India: BJP bid to poach MLAs, destabilise Rajasthan govt: Cong

Jaipur, Jun 10 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday charged the BJP with attempts to destabilise the Rajasthan government even as party MLAs were taken to a luxury resort in Jaipur for a meeting called by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The development has taken place ahead of the June 19 elections to three Rajya Sabha seats in the state.

India: Seven-year-old girl raped in Rajasthan's Alwar

Jaipur, Jun 6 (PTI) A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor in Rajasthan's Alwar district, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Niranjan Kumar, abducted the seven-year-old girl from her house on Wednesday night while she was sleeping in the verandah, they said.

He took her to a secluded place and raped her, according to a complaint lodged by the girl's family.

India: BJP indulging in horse trading in Guj: Gehlot

Jaipur, Jun 4 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday accused the BJP of indulging in horse trading in Gujarat ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.

"The BJP is again using its time-tested tactic, which is horse trading, in Gujarat ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections," Gehlot tweeted.

He said the party can go to any extent for winning seats.

"Luring opposition MLAs is the party's only game plan in order to grab seats or power by hook or by crook," he said, in reaction to resignation of two Gujarat Congress MLAs.

India: Rajasthan hikes liquor prices to boost revenue

Jaipur, Jun 3 (PTI) Liquor has become costlier in Rajasthan, with the state government imposing a surcharge of up to Rs 30 to mop up revenue amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The state finance department said the decision has been taken to mitigate natural or man-made calamities like floods, epidemic etc.

India: All govt, private offices to start functioning in Rajasthan from June 1

Jaipur, May 31 (PTI) The Rajasthan government on Sunday allowed government and private sector organsiations to function with full strength of their employees, while providing for continued closure of religious places, hotels and malls from June 1 during the latest phase of lockdown.

In its guidelines issued for the latest phase of lockdown till June 30, the state government also allowed private and commercial transport vehicle to carry passengers up to their full capacity, but no more.

India: BJP to highlight one-year achievement of Modi govt

Jaipur, May 26 (PTI) Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia on Tuesday called upon party workers to highlight the Modi government's achievements in the last one year.

Poonia and party national vice president and Rajasthan in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna addressed BJP state spokespersons and media in-charge of districts through video conference.

Poonia said that in the last one year, the government at the Centre has done many such things which every countryman is proud of.

India: Rajasthan restores 8-hour working in factories

Jaipur, May 26 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has restored the working hours for factory workers to eight hours per day, according to an official statement.

On April 24, the government had increased the working hours to 12 from 8 hours per day to reduce the requirement of workers in all the registered factories, in view of the coronavirus spread.
