Expert calls Arctic promising region for wind turbines

ULYANOVSK, May 13. /TASS/: The Arctic zone has a big potential for use of wind turbines, Director General of the Altren Company (Alternative and Renewable Energy Competence Center) Andrei Redkin told TASS.

The expert will moderate a panel on renewable energy for isolated Arctic territories at the ARWE-2019 international forum on renewable energy, due on May 23.

"A very big promising area to use wind turbines is remote isolated energy systems," he said. "And inside those stand separately the Arctic territories and their neighboring territories."

Teenager detained after threatening teacher with knife at Russian school

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/: Police have detained a teenager, who has threatened a teacher at a school with a knife in Kazan, the capital of the Tatarstan Republic, the Interior Ministry told TASS on Monday.

"A pupil from one of the classes came to gymnasium number 7 and started threatening a teacher with a knife. Police were called at the scene. The officers quickly arrived at the site and detained the boy," the ministry’s press service said.

Identification SSJ-100 plane crash victims to take nearly a month

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. The process to identify the remains of 41 people killed in the crash of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft may take nearly a month, a medical source told TASS on Monday.

"At the moment, the procedure of taking DNA samples from the relatives of all those killed has been completed. The process to analyze the samples is beginning. The procedure will take nearly a month," the source said.

Group of Northern Fleet ships enter Norwegian Sea

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/:  A group of Northern Fleet ships led by the Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship entered the Norwegian Sea on the way to the home base, the fleet’s press service reported on Monday.

"The Severomorsk large ant-submarine ship and the Vyazma medium sea tanker entered the southern part of the Norwegian Sea. The group is heading to Severomorsk, the main base of the Northern Fleet. It is expected to arrive at the end of the week," the statement says.

Smaller road signs can lead to growth of traffic accident rate

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/: Direction signs of smaller dimensions can lead to an increase in the traffic accidents in Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs says in response to an inquiry from TASS.

It was reported earlier, citing the press service of the Russian standardization authority Rosstandart that the national state standard authorizing installation of traffic signs with smaller dimensions became effective in Russia since May 1.

Investigative committee opens criminal case after gas explosion in Rostov

ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 12. /TASS/: Russian Investigative committee has opened a criminal case after a domestic gas explosion in Rostov Region killed two people, the press service told TASS on Sunday.

"Investigators opened a criminal case due to negligence in the Kamensky District after two people were killed in a household gas explosion in a residential building.

Investigators and criminologists are working at the scene of the crime. Documents relevant to the case have been taken from the gas company that provided service to the area.

Russia, Norway to hold joint maritime rescue exercise on May 28-29

TASS, May 11: The Altai rescue vessel, an Ilyushin Il-38 aircraft and a Kamov Ka-27PS helicopter from Russia’s Northern Fleet will participate in a joint Russia-Norway maritime rescue exercise scheduled to take place in the Barents Sea on May 28-29, the Fleet’s press service said in a statement on Saturday.

Wildfires scorch over 44,000 hectares across Russia - federal agency

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/: Wildfires have scorched over 44,000 hectares in 18 Russian regions, the Federal Aerial Forest Protection Service (Avialesokhrana) said in a statement on Saturday, adding that 155 forest fires had been extinguished in the previous 24 hours.

"As of May 11, 2019, a total of 54 forest fires are active in Russia, which engulf 44,245 hectares, active efforts are underway to extinguish the fires," the statement reads.

Shipment of quality oil resumed in Ust-Luga port - Russia’s Energy Ministry

MOSCOW, May 10. /TASS/: Ust-Luga, a port in the Russian northwestern Leningrad region, has resumed shipping Russian export crude compliant with GOST (All Union State Standard) requirements, the Russian Energy Ministry said on Friday.

"Earlier, on May 8, on spec oil was transported to the metering station of Ust-Luga port. On May 9, it started to flow into a tank farm for being loaded onto tankers," the ministry added.
