Hindutva pop amplifies a wave of hate songs in Modi’s India: NYT

NEW YORK, Nov 11 (APP): A report in a leading American newspaper has focused attention on how Indian singer Laxmi Dubey is currently promoting Hindutva pop music in India, especially violent songs that openly call for “harsher action against Pakistan and separatist Kashmiri militants, and for forced conversions and a Hindu settlement campaign in Kashmir.”

The report in The New York Times said that mixing dance tracks with calls for religious warfare, the Hindutva pop amplifies a wave of Hindu nationalism in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s India.

Still unknown? Many have yet to form opinions on Warren

RALIEGH, N.C. (AP) — Ron Wen knew Elizabeth Warren was running for president, but not much else.

“We hear one or two things about ‘Medicare for All,’” the 52-year-old technical marketing professional said about Warren’s universal health care plan as he waited for a town hall with the Massachusetts senator to begin inside a packed high school gym in North Carolina’s capital. “You always get the sound bites. You need to just go deeper.”

Still a chance? 2020 longshots insist race is up for grabs

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Bernie Sanders rallied hundreds of supporters outside the New Hampshire capital when the senator formally filed to compete in the state’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary. A howling crowd cheered South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg as he walked through the statehouse to file his paperwork.

When it was Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet’s turn, he wound up with about a dozen supporters and a pep talk from Secretary of State Bill Gardner, the dean of the New Hampshire primary.

What’s coming in impeachment: Public hearings, messaging

WASHINGTON (AP) — For only the fourth time in U.S. history, the House of Representatives has started a presidential impeachment inquiry. House committees are trying to determine whether President Donald Trump violated his oath of office by asking Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden’s family and the 2016 U.S. presidential election all while the White House was withholding military aid to the East European ally that borders Russia.

A quick forecast of what’s coming this week:

Was Trump call with Ukraine ‘perfect’? GOP has many answers

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans have no unified argument in the impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump , in large part because they can’t agree on how best to defend the president — or for some, if they should.

That would require a level of consensus that Trump’s call with the Ukraine president was “perfect,” as he insists. Or it would take a measure of GOP independence from Trump to suggest there may be a need to investigate.

Instead, it’s every Republican for himself or herself.

Trump impeachment inquiry heads to live TV coverage

USA (AP) -- Back in 1973, tens of millions of Americans tuned in to what Variety called “the hottest daytime soap opera” — the Senate Watergate hearings that eventually led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.

It was a communal experience, and by some estimates, more than 80% of Americans tuned in to at least part of the Watergate telecasts. They were offered by ABC, CBS and NBC, as well as PBS, which won acclaim and viewers by showing not only the live hearings but also the full-length replays in prime time.
