India: BJP leaders, RSS functionaries hold meet

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Top BJP leaders met here on Monday to deliberate over a host of organisational issues and coordination between the party and government in a meeting which was also attended by senior RSS functionaries.

Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, all former BJP presidents, besides RSS joint general secretary Arun Kumar met at the residence of incumbent party chief J P Nadda. Their deliberation went on for close to three hours.

India: Man held for raping, killing teenage girl in Delhi

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) A 32-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old girl in north Delhi's Narela area, police said.

The accused has been identified as Sunil, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, they said.

The police said a case of kidnapping had been registered on February 15 after receiving a complaint from the girl's father, a resident of a village in Narela.

India: Exports up 24 pc, imports grew 26.55

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) Exports rose by 24.22 per cent to USD 38.19 billion in April on account of healthy performance by sectors like petroleum products, electronic goods and chemicals, the commerce ministry said on Tuesday.

Imports during the month under review grew 26.55 per cent to USD 58.26 billion. The trade deficit in April 2022 widened to USD 20.07 billion as against USD 15.29 billion in the year-ago period, it said.

India: 40-yr-old man held for allegedly raping infant in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) A 40-year-old man was arrested following a brief gunfight on Saturday for allegedly raping a six-month-old girl in northwest Delhi's Samaypur Badli area, police said.

His friend, who is also charged with raping the infant's teenage sister, is absconding, they said.

Police identified the arrested man as Kamal Malhotra alias Chinu, a resident of Jahangirpuri, and the absconding accused as Raj alias Raju.

India: Jet fuel price hiked by 3.22 pc to record high

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) Jet fuel prices on Sunday were hiked by 3.22 per cent -- the ninth straight increase this year -- to an all-time high, reflecting a surge in global energy prices.

The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) -- the fuel that helps aeroplanes fly -- was hiked by Rs 3,649.13 per kilolitre, or 3.22 per cent, to Rs 1,16,851.46 per kl (Rs 116.8 per litre) in the national capital, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

India: Fuel sales growth moderates in April due to high prices

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) India's petrol and diesel sales growth moderated in April while cooking gas LPG consumption fell as record high prices dented demand, preliminary industry data showed on Sunday.

Petrol sales growth moderated to 2.1 per cent in April when compared with the same period in the preceding month, while diesel demand was almost flat. Cooking gas LPG, which had consistently shown growth even during the pandemic period, saw a massive 9.1 per cent month-on-month drop in consumption during April.

India: Gen Manoj Pande takes charge as Army chief

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) Gen Manoj Pande took charge as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff on Saturday after incumbent Gen MM Naravane retired from service.

Gen Pande, who was serving as the vice chief, became the first officer from the Corps of Engineers to helm the force.

Before taking charge as vice chief of the Army on February 1, Gen Pande was heading the Eastern Army Command, tasked with guarding the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh sectors.

India: Place on record that no untoward statement will be made: SC to U'Khand chief secy on Dharam Sansad

New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Uttarakhand chief secretary to place on record that no untoward statement will be made at the 'Dharam Sansad' scheduled in Roorkee.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday.

A three judge bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar took note of the assurance given by the Uttarakhand government that authorities are confident that no untoward statement will be made during the event and all steps as per decisions of this court will be taken.
