India: Situation returning to normalcy in Delhi's Jahangirpuri

New Delhi, Apr 19 (PTI) The situation in Jahangirpuri of northwest Delhi is heading towards normalcy amid heavy deployment of security personnel in the violence-hit area, police said on Tuesday.

Some of the shops, mainly of grocery, in the streets have opened and the movement of people is becoming normal, they said.

Over 500 police personnel and six companies of additional force have been deployed in the area round the clock.

India belongs to everyone: RSS leader

New Delhi, Apr 19 (PTI) Against the backdrop of several incidents of clashes between two communities, senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar has given a call for unity and peace, saying India is a land of all major religions and it belongs to everyone.

Addressing an event organised to mark Easter at west Delhi's Rajouri Garden on Monday evening, he said none of the religions or their messengers had ever taught hatred and animosity towards mankind, but it is "the reign of the devil" that makes people fight with each other as it runs parallel to "the reign of god".

India: BJP lead NDMC 'razes' hopes for better future at Jahangirpuri despite SC stay order

New Delhi, Apr 20 (PTI) Malika Bibi's hopes to secure a better future for her children shattered when her fruits and vegetables shop, the sole source of her income, was razed by civic authorities at violence-hit Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi on Wednesday.

A similar tale of woe was narrated by Nazma, whose sister Rahima "lost everything" as her tea shop near the C-Block mosque at Jahangirpuri was razed to the ground by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) during an anti-encroachment drive.

Indian FM Sitharaman meets IMF chief

Washington, Apr 19 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday met IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva and discussed a range of issues, including impact of geopolitical situation on global growth.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the ongoing annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the IMF chief highlighted India's well-targeted policy mix that has helped the country's economy remain resilient even with a limited fiscal space.

India: Lt Gen Manoj Pande to be next Army chief

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) Lt Gen Manoj Pande will take the reins as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff after incumbent Gen MM Naravane's tenure ends on April 30.

Lt Gen Pande, currently serving as the vice chief, will become the first commander from the Corps of Engineers to take charge of the 1.3-million-strong force as the position has been held so far by officers from infantry, artillery and armoured regiments.

India: SBI hikes lending rate by 0.1 pc; EMIs to go up

New Delhi, Apr 19 (PTI) The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has raised its marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR) by 10 basis points (bps) or 0.1 per cent across all tenures, a move that will lead to an increase in EMIs for borrowers.

The lending rate revision by SBI is likely to be followed by other banks in the days to come.

India: Auto, taxi unions in Delhi on strike to demand CNG subsidy, fare hike

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) Various auto-rickshaw, cab and taxi unions in the national capital went on a strike on Monday, demanding a CNG subsidy and a fare revision in the wake of rising fuel prices.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh General Secretary Rajendra Soni said they will also hold a protest outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence in Civil Lines later in the day to press their demands.

India: BJP was behind the Jahangirpuri violence: AAP

New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that the BJP was behind the violence during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri.

The party's reaction came after Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta alleged that the violence was the result of the AAP government aiding illegal stay of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants.

The BJP leader also alleged that one of the arrested accused in the violence was an AAP activist.

India: SC cancells Allahabad HC bail order to Ashish Mishra in farmers' killing case

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

A special bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli also asked the accused to surrender in a week's time.
