Russia’s FSB detains Islamic State supporters in Rostov-on-Don

MOSCOW, July 13. /TASS/: Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has exposed a group of supporters of the Islamic State organization, outlawed in Russia, who planned to carry out terrorist attacks on schools and hospitals in the Rostov region, the FSB said in a statement on Monday.

Russia: Terms of achieving National Projects' goals to be extended until 2030

MOSCOW, July 13. /TASS/: The terms of achieving Russia’s National Projects may be extended until 2030, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a meeting of the Presidential Council on strategic development and National Projects on Monday.

"It is possible to extend the terms of achieving National Projects until 2030," he said, adding that it is also necessary to consider the accumulated experience of implementation of National Projects.

The government faces the work amid tight budget restrictions in coming years, PM noted.

State of emergency declared on Russia's Taimyr Peninsula over jet fuel spill

KRASNOYARSK, July 13. /TASS/: A state of emergency has been declared in the Tukhard settlement located in the Taimyr District of Russia's Krasnoyarsk Region after a pipeline lost pressure and released jet fuel into the environment, the district administration said in a statement.

"A state of emergency has been declared in the municipality following a jet fuel spill in the Tukhard settlement," the statement reads.

Putin says COVID-19 fatalities in Russia are much lower than in other countries

NOVO-OGARYOVO, July 13. /TASS/: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin stated that the number of the coronavirus fatalities is several times lower than in other countries.

"According to one of the basic criteria of the effectiveness of our work - the mortality rate, - the situation looks good: in Russia per 100,000 of population the coronavirus fatalities are lower than in many other countries, including the European countries with the developed healthcare system," the head of state said at the meeting of the council for strategic development and national projects.

Britain, France agree joint unit to fight migrant traffickers

CALAIS, July 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The interior ministers of France and Britain signed an agreement creating a new joint police intelligence unit to combat migrant traffickers and reduce the “unsustainable” numbers crossing the Channel illegally.

France’s new Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and his British counterpart Priti Patel met on Sunday in Calais in northern France, a region where migrants have traditionally gathered in a bid to find a way to get to Britain.

Spain not planning to make masks compulsory at all times, source says

MADRID (Reuters) - Spain’s government is not planning to make the use of face masks compulsory nationwide where social distancing can be guaranteed, a Health Ministry source said on Monday, after several regions made them mandatory in all circumstances.

Spain’s regions already have the instruments they need to tackle the roughly 100 localised outbreaks that have sprung up around the country, the source added.

UK will place priority on national security in Huawei decision, minister says

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain will place a “huge priority” on national security when considering Chinese telecoms firm Huawei’s role in the country’s 5G network, justice minister Robert Buckland said on Monday.

“National security comes first ... and I know that the NSC (National Security Council) and the whole of government will be placing a huge priority on our national security,” he told BBC radio.

An announcement on Huawei’s role would be made “as soon as practicable”, he said.

Britain set to ban Huawei from 5G, though timescale unclear

LONDON (Reuters) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to ban Huawei from Britain’s 5G network in a landmark decision that will anger Beijing but win plaudits from President Donald Trump as the United States grapples with China’s rising economic and technological clout.

The United States has pushed Johnson to reverse his January decision to grant Huawei a limited role in 5G, while London has been dismayed by a crackdown in Hong Kong and by the perception that China did not tell the whole truth over coronavirus.

UK: Oil dips on surge in COVID-19 infections

LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices dropped on Monday on a record daily rise in global coronavirus cases with big spikes in infections over the weekend in the United States, while traders await an OPEC technical meeting expected to recommend an easing of supply cuts.

Brent crude LCOc1 fell 61 cents, or 1.4%, to $42.63 a barrel by 1127 GMT, though prices have been hovering around $42 for a couple of weeks. U.S. crude CLc1 was down 64 cents, or 1.6%, at $39.91.

Kosovo’s Thaci strongly denies committing any war crimes

TIRANA, Albania (AP) — Kosovo’s president said Sunday he was going to The Hague to prove to prosecutors investigating war crimes allegedly committed during and after a 1998-1999 armed conflict in Kosovo between ethnic Albanian separatists and Serbia that he had broken no international laws during the war.

Hashim Thaci spoke to private television Top Channel at the Mother Teresa Tirana International Airport before leaving for The Hague to be questioned by prosecutors on Monday.
