ECHR turns down Ukraine’s request for interim measures concerning Kerch Strait

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has turned down Ukraine’s request for interim measures concerning the detention of Ukrainian navy ships in the Kerch Strait on November 25, 2018, the Russian Justice Ministry said in a statement published on its website on Friday.

WTO head calls for strengthening int'l economic system to confront challenges

BUCHAREST, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo on Thursday called for strengthening international economic system to confront significant challenges.

The current tensions among trade partners are a huge test for the WTO, Azevedo said here at an ongoing two-day meeting of trade ministers of the European Union (EU) member states.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday and Friday under Romania's presidency of the EU Council.

Major retailers issue warning on price rise of food and drink in no-deal Brexit

LONDON, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Leading retail bodies in the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland issued a warning on Thursday that the price of fresh food and drink could increase dramatically in the event of a No-Deal Brexit.

With just over 30 days until UK is set to leave the European Union, the British Retail Consortium (BRC), Northern Ireland Retail Consortium (NIRC) and Retail Ireland, voiced their concerns to the government in a letter, stating that a No-Deal outcome could lead to delays at major borders and shortages of food products.

Swedish teen leads Belgian students on 7th climate march

BRUSSELS (AP) — Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg is joining Belgian students who are skipping classes for the seventh Thursday in a row to march through Brussels to draw more attention to fighting climate change.

The 16-year-old Thunberg first addressed a European Union conference, chiding adults for their inaction in the face of such climatic global dangers. She said youngsters are being forced to skip school and protest because adults are not addressing climate issues quickly enough.

Polish activists pull down statue of priest in abuse protest

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Activists in Poland pulled down a statue of a priest early Thursday after increasing allegations that he sexually abused minors, a stunt they said was to protest the failure of the Polish Catholic Church to resolve the problem of clergy sex abuse.

The protest comes as Pope Francis gathered church leaders from around the world at the Vatican to grapple with the church’s sex abuse crisis.

Shares in world’s top shipping firm sink on US tariffs risk

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Shares in the world’s biggest shipping company, Denmark’s A.P. Moller-Maersk, plunged Thursday after it warned of the commercial damage it would suffer from a U.S. escalation in the trade war with China.

The company reported a fourth quarter loss of $34 million, from a $32 million profit a year earlier. Revenue increased to $10.2 billion from $8.4 billion. For all of 2018, revenue rose 26 percent to $8.1 billion.

Russia may start delivering Mi-171A2 helicopters to India late 2019

BANGALORE /India/, February 21. /TASS/. The Russian Helicopters company (part of the Rostec State Corporation) plans to begin the delivery of the Mil Mi-171A2 helicopters to India in late 2019, the company’s CEO Andrei Bogisnky told TASS on the sidelines of the Aero India Show 2019.

"We expect that India will validate the certificate for the helicopter’s civilian version in the first half of the year so that we can start the delivery process in the fourth quarter," he said.

Artificial intelligence system on Mi-28N helicopters to destroy targets

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. A source in the aircraft industry said that the new AI system analyzes targets in the field, establishes whether they belong to the enemy, picks the appropriate weapon from the helicopter's equipment.

The new onboard system with artificial intelligence capable of destroying targets selected by pilots without their participation is being tried on Russia's Mi-28N attack helicopters, a source in the aircraft industry told TASS on Thursday.
