India: JK drops 'Sher-e-Kashmir' from name of police medals

Jammu, Jan 25 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday announced a change in nomenclature of police medal for gallantry and police medal for meritorious service, removing the word 'Sher-e-Kashmir', a reference to former chief minister and National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.

India: 2G mobile internet restored in Kashmir but restricted to 301 websites

Srinagar, Jan 24 (PTI) After remaining shut for more than five months, 2G mobile internet services on postpaid as well as prepaid phones will be restored in the Kashmir Valley from Saturday but can only be used to access 301 websites approved by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, an official order said.

According to a notification issued by the home department of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, access to the internet with 2G speed on mobile phones will resume from January 25.

India: Operate only with J&K Bank: Admin tells officers

Jammu, Jan 24 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday directed officers to close all official accounts in banks other than the J&K Bank by January 31 or face stern disciplinary action.

The J&K administration had last year issued a direction to accounts officers and drawing and disbursing (DDOs) asking them to open official accounts only in J&K Bank.

The J&K Bank is the official bank of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Pulwama district of Indian administered Kashmir

Pulwama, Jan22: A Kashmiri separatist was killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Budgam district of Indian administered Kashmir, police said.

An Indian soldier and a special police officer (SPO) were also killed in a gunbattle in the area of Tuesday.

India: CISF to replace JK Police at Srinagar, Jammu airports

Jammu, Jan 18 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will take over the security related duties being performed by the local police at Srinagar and Jammu airports by the end of this month.

However, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will continue to provide security at these two vital installations as per the existing mechanism, an official spokesman said.

India: Protection of land and jobs for J-K locals would be ensured: LG

Jammu, Jan 17 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Friday said protection of land and jobs for the locals would be ensured keeping in view the interest of the Union Territory.

Interacting with the councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here, he also said the non-implementation of 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments was hampering the complete empowerment of panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) and urban local bodies (ULBs) in the UT.

India: Prepaid mobile connections restored in J-K

Jammu, Jan 18 (PTI) Prepaid mobile connections were restored in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday and 2G services resumed in two districts of the valley after being disconnected in August last year, official said here.

Voice and SMS facilities were restored for all local prepaid mobile phones across the Union territory.

Rohit Kansal, the principal secretary to the administration of Jammu and Kashmir said the order will come into effect from Saturday.

India: Broadband, 2G Internet partially restored in parts of Jammu

Srinagar, Jan 14 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday evening allowed mobile Internet in parts of Jammu region and broadband in hotels, travel establishments and hospitals but only on white-listed websites, official said.

In a three-page order, the home department said additional 400 internet kiosks will be established in Kashmir division.
