India: Wearing face masks mandatory in Srinagar from May 1

Srinagar, Apr 30 (PTI) Authorities in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir have made wearing face masks mandatory in all public places from Friday, officials said.

"From May 1, let's please make it sure to wear face mask at all times, at all places of contact. We will ensure to make masks available to everyone. Do remember: mask is just one of various precautions," Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary said in a tweet.

India: IWPC expresses shock over gov action against 3 journalists in J&K

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) The Indian Women's Press Corps on Wednesday expressed shock over three journalists being booked by law enforcement authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that the action was aimed at "striking fear in the hearts of journalists".

The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has been used against freelance photographer Masarat Zahra, a fellow woman journalist. The act was meant to deal with hardened terrorists, the IWPC said in a statement.

India: Three CRPF personnel killed in Sopore town of Indian administered Kashmir

14 April 2020 (UMM):  Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and many have been injured by Kashmiri Separatists in Sopore town of Indian administered Kashmir on Saturday.

The separatists fired at a check post that was jointly manned by CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian officials said.

India: Srinagar-Leh highway reopens after four months

Kargil, Apr 11 (PTI) The 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway, considered as the lifeline of the Union Territory of Ladakh, was reopened on Saturday to ferry essential commodities after remaining closed for over four months owing to heavy snowfall along the Zojila Pass.

In view of the coronavirus outbreak, the Ladakh administration on Friday had decided to only allow limited traffic, including trucks and oil tankers, to replenish essential supplies in the cold desert which usually remains cut off from the outside world during the winter months.

India: 3-yr-old girl raped in J&K's Ramban

Banihal/Jammu, Apr 8 (PTI) A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour while she was playing outside her house in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said on Wednesday.

The accused, Pawan Singh (18), was arrested and a case under relevant sections of law including POCSO Act was registered against him, the official said.

India: Jammu man sent to quarantine centre for spitting on road

Jammu, Apr 7 (PTI) Old habits will just no longer do, a Jammu and Kashmir administration employee found to his dismay on Tuesday when he was sent to a quarantine centre for blowing his nose and spitting on the road.

The man, who works as an accountant in the civil secretariat here, had gone to meet a relative in Paloura on the outskirts of the city when he was nabbed, officials said.
