17 May 2023; MEMO: Libya's eastern-based Parliament voted on Tuesday to replace Fathi Bashagha as Prime Minister, its spokesperson said, Reuters reports.

According to the report, Bashagha failed to take office in Tripoli where the incumbent Abdulhamid Al-Dbeibah has refused to cede power.

The Parliament assigned Bashagha's Finance Minister, Osama Hamad, to take over his duties, Parliament spokesperson, Abdullah Belhaiq said, the report says.

TRIPOLI, Feb 8 (NNN-LANA) – The Libyan Illegal Immigration Control Department, yesterday said that, Libya plans to reopen all of the closed border crossings.

The announcement was made, after Mohamed al-Khoja, head of the department, paid a visit to the south-western border city of Ghadames, and met with local security officials.

Al-Khoja discussed with the security officials, strengthening security in the area and efforts to fight illegal activities, mainly illegal immigration, according to a statement, issued by the department.

31 Jan 2023; MEMO: Libya's Tripoli-based government has held talks with Ukraine to discuss the possibility of military cooperation between the two sides, particularly on safeguarding maritime and air borders, Anadolu News Agency reports.

This came in a meeting held late Monday in Tripoli between the head of the Defence Minister's office, Jibril Al-Shtiwi, and the Ukrainian military attaché in Tripoli, Andriy Payok.

25 Jan 2023; MEMO: Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) will sign offshore gas exploration and production deals with Italy's Eni, Reuters reports.

According to the report, the deal would require $8 billion to produce up to 850 million cubic feet a day of gas from the Mediterranean.

The report says Libya is planning to take advantage of demand for North African gas in Europe because of the war in Ukraine.

TRIPOLI, Jan 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamed Dbeibah vowed that his government will strive to preserve the country’s unity and avoid war or armed conflict.

Dbeibah made his remarks during a graduation ceremony for 306 police officers from the police academy in the western town of Aziziya, which is located some 46 km south of the capital Tripoli.

“We work together to protect Libya, its unity and we reject any return to war,” Dbeibah said in a speech during the celebration.

TRIPOLI, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan authorities said on Sunday that 18 unidentified bodies were discovered in the northern coastal city of Sirte.

The 18 bodies were found in the Sabaa area of Sirte last week and transferred to a hospital in the city, the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons said in a statement.

Samples were collected from the bodies and taken to laboratories for analysis, the statement added.

Bathily made the call in a speech on the 71st anniversary of Libya's Independence Day, marked annually on December 24.

In a statement, the Libyan Foreign Ministry decried Greece's "irresponsible behaviour" of striking a deal with international companies to start research and exploration for oil and gas in the Libyan-Greek maritime borders.
