Lucknow, Nov 4 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Friday expressed surprise that though the ground reality related to dengue is very pitiable in the city, everything is being said to be fine in government records.

The Lucknow bench of the high court said that if it had its own agency, it would have definitely cross checked the government data, which stressed that the situation is under control and there is no lack of beds and other facilities in the government hospitals to check vector borne diseases in the capital.

26 October 2022; MEMO: The UN warned, Tuesday, that a cholera outbreak was rapidly spreading throughout Syria and asked for $34.4 million for a three-month response plan, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The money is needed to assist more than 160,000 people with health services and 5 million with water, sanitation and assistance hygiene.

Banjul, Gambia; 7 Oct 2022 (UMMN): 66 children are suspected to have died after taking Indian made cough syrup in Gambia, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.

Their death, caused by kidney injuries, may be linked to contaminated cough and cold syrups made by an Indian drug manufacturer Maiden Pharma.

SINGAPORE, Oct 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – Singapore reported 7,146 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total tally to 1,924,139.

Of the new cases, 444 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, and 6,702 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 434 were local transmissions and 10 were imported cases. Among the ART cases, with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 6,454 local transmissions and 248 imported cases.

Kanpur: Above 70 medical students on campus have been suffering from fever after 16 pigs were found dead at GSVM Medical College.

Condition of a female student has become critical and been in a coma since Wednesday morning. She has been put on a ventilator.

Another 5 students got sick and have been admitted to the hospital.

Media in-charge of the college, Dr Ganesh Shankar said that samples have been sent to Lucknow for  analysis of Japanese encephalitis.

Lucknow, Sep 23 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has banned cattle trade with four neighbouring states and also imposed a "lockdown" on the intrastate movement of animals from 28 districts to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease, Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh said Friday.

He said the lumpy skin disease has spread to animals in 14 states of the country and it is "fatal to animals like coronavirus" is to human.

19 Sep 2022; MEMO: The Syrian Ministry of Health said that the total number of confirmed deaths by cholera in Syria has reached 14 in addition to 201 infected persons, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA).

The 14 deaths include 11 in Aleppo, two in Deir ez-Zor and one in Hasaka.

The 201 cholera cases include 153 in Aleppo alone, 21 in Hasaka, 14 in Deir ez-Zor, 10 in Lathakia, two in Damascus, and one in Homs.

Mumbai, Sep 16 (PTI) Maharashtra's Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Friday cancelled the baby powder manufacturing licence of Johnson & Johnson Pvt Ltd "in the interest of public health at large".

In a release, the state government agency said the company's product, Johnson's Baby Powder, may affect the skin of newborn babies.

Samples of the powder for babies did not conform to standard pH value during a laboratory test, the regulator said.

Berlin, Sep 15 (PTI) Even a single exposure to alcohol may permanently change the shape of nerve cells and lead to addiction, according to a study conducted in animals.

Neurons or nerve cells are the fundamental units of the brain and nervous system responsible for receiving sensory input from the external world.

The researchers found that, in particular, alcohol affects the structure of the synapses as well as the dynamics of the mitochondria, the cell's powerhouses.

26 August 2022; MEMO: Two hundred Israeli medical residents resigned yesterday in protest against the 26-hour shifts they are having to carry out.

The head of the Medical Residents Organisation (Mirsham), Dr. Rey Biton, said that some 200 medical residents are resigning in the first stage of the protest, with many more coming if the crisis is not solved.
