India": IIT Kanpur methodology foresees the fourth wave of Covid in June

Kanpur: The IIT Kanpur researchers have said that fourth wave of COVID may strike in June. Earlier, they had made prediction for third wave and it was near accurate with slight deviation in dates.

In order to make the prediction for the fourth wave of COVID in India, the researchers, Sabara Parshad Rajeshbhai, Subhra Sankar Dhar and Shalabh of the department of mathematics and statistics of IIT Kanpur, have used a statistical model for their prediction.

This methodology can also be used to forecast COVID waves in other countries as well, they said.

World may see another pandemic: Bill Gates

Swiss president tests positive for COVID as restrictions lifted

18 Feb 2022; AA: Swiss President Ignazio Cassis, who holds the rotating Swiss presidency this year, tested positive for COVID-19 on the day coronavirus restrictions were lifted in Switzerland, the government has confirmed.

Cassis, also foreign minister, tested positive following a PCR test on Wednesday afternoon, the government announced in a statement on Thursday.

Turkiye registers over 86,000 new coronavirus cases

12 Feb 2022; AA: Turkiye reported over 86,000 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, according to new Health Ministry data.

The ministry confirmed 86,193 infections, 272 related deaths, and 73,526 recoveries over the past day.

As many as 448,347 virus tests were also done across the country.

To counter the spread of the virus, Turkiye has administered over 143.94 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since it launched an immunization drive in January 2021.

India: Lab issuing fake Covid reports raided in Gurugram

Gurugram, Feb 8 (PTI) The Haryana Chief Minister's Flying Squad has raided a diagnostic lab accused of preparing fake coronavirus reports, officials said on Tuesday.

The team nabbed a lab assistant while the operator managed to flee.

The lab allegedly charged Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 to issue COVID-19 positive or negative reports.

They also charged Rs 900 for Covid test even as the rate of the test is capped at Rs 299 when a person opts to get it done at a lab.

An FIR in this regard has been registered at DLF Phase-3 police station.

India: SC sets aside detention order of accused in fake Remdesivir case

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) The Supreme Court has set aside an order for detention of a Jabalpur man accused of procuring fake Remdesivir injections during the second wave of COVID-19.

A bench of justices D Y Chandrachud and Dinesh Maheshwari said the failure of the central and the Madhya Pradesh governments to communicate the rejection of the representation of the accused in a time bound manner vitiates the order of detention.

Covid-19 Sputnik V vaccine granted full permanent approval in Russia

India reports over 235,000 Covid cases, 871 fatalities in a day

New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI) With 235,532 people testing positive for the coronavirus infection in a day, India's total tally of cases increased to over 4.08 crore, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll has climbed to 493,198 with 871 fatalities reported during the 24-hour period, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The active cases decreased by 1,01,278 to reach 20,04,333 -- 4.91 per cent of the total infections -- while the country's recovery rate stands at 93.89 per cent, the ministry said.

India logs 255,874 fresh COVID-19 cases

New Delhi, Jan 25 (PTI) After being over three lakh for five consecutive days, the single day rise in COVID-19 infections was recorded at 2,55,874, taking India's total tally of cases to 3,97,99,202, according to Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll has climbed to 4,90,462 with 614 daily fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The ministry said that active cases have decreased to 22,36,842 and comprise 5.62 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.15 per cent.
