US experts debate: Who should be next in line for vaccine?

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. COVID-19 vaccination campaign has begun, and the few available doses are mostly going into the arms of health-care workers and nursing home residents.

But what about in January, February and March, when more shots are expected to become available? Who should get those doses?

A federal panel of vaccination experts takes up that question at an emergency meeting this weekend. No matter what the committee decides, there will be differences from state to state.

New Delhi, Dec 16 (PTI) India dropped one spot to 131 among 189 countries in the 2020 human development index, according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Human Development Index is the measure of a nation's health, education, and standards of living.

USA: Ex-Epstein pal seeks bail with USD 28.5M and armed guards

New York, Dec 15 (AP-PTI) Lawyers for the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein are urging a judge to free her to await trial under a USD 28.5 million bail package that would include armed guards to keep her in a New York City residence and protect her safety.

The bail arguments on behalf of Ghislaine Maxwell were filed under seal last Tuesday, but were publicly filed late Monday with redactions in Manhattan federal court that were approved by Judge Alison J Nathan.

UN chief urges member states to help address severe economic crisis in Yemen

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on member states to help address the severe economic crisis in Yemen, which has been mired in a civil war since late 2014.

"I call on all member states to step up their financial support for United Nations relief operations, and to help address the severe economic crisis in the country," the secretary-general said in a statement issued by his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric on the second anniversary of the Stockholm Agreement between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels.

USA: Gunman shot by police at NYC cathedral Christmas concert

NEW YORK (AP) — A man was fatally shot by police on the steps of a landmark New York City cathedral Sunday after he began firing two semiautomatic handguns at the end of a Christmas choral concert, police said.

The gunfire began just before 4 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York.

Uber asks U.S. states to prioritize its drivers for COVID-19 vaccine

(Reuters) - Uber Technologies Inc on Thursday sent letters to the governors of all U.S. states, asking for its ride-hail and food delivery drivers to get early access to COVID-19 vaccines as essential workers.

The company also said it will send a letter to U.S. President-elect Joe Biden.

The letters come less than a week after Uber sent a similar letter to a committee of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
