Chinese envoy calls for strengthening Africa's counter-terrorism efforts

UNITED NATIONS, June 22 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy on Thursday called for efforts to strengthen African counter-terrorism efforts at the launch of the UN Joint Appeal for Counter-Terrorism in Africa.

China welcomes the launch of the Joint Appeal given that terrorism is a significant threat facing the African continent, said Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations. China hopes the Flagship Initiative will promote synergy among UN agencies to help Africa deal with the challenge of terrorism, he added.

USA: Argentina again calls on UK for peaceful solution to Falklands/Malvinas dispute

UNITED NATIONS, June 22 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentine foreign minister Santiago Cafiero, before the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, again called on the United Kingdom for bilateral negotiations with Argentina for a specific and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas/Falklands Islands.

Cafiero made his presentation during a session dedicated to addressing the Malvinas Question at the UN C24, next to a numerous delegation which included besides government officials, representatives from the opposition.

USA: UN adds Russia to list of shame for killing children in Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS, June 22 (Reuters) - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called out Russia on Thursday for killing 136 children in Ukraine in 2022, adding its armed forces to a global list of offenders, according to a report to the U.N. Security Council seen by Reuters.

The United Nations also verified that Russian armed forces and affiliated groups maimed 518 children and carried out 480 attacks on schools and hospitals. Russian armed forces also used 91 children as human shields, according to the report.

USA: Bans on women, girls costing Taliban legitimacy at home & abroad: UN envoy

The dollar index , which measures the currency against six rivals, was 0.15% higher on the day at 102.66, after the release of Powell's testimony prepared for delivery to the House Financial Services Committee at 10:00 a.m. ET (1400 GMT).

USA: UN allocates 20 mln USD for urgent food aid campaign in NE Nigeria

UNITED NATIONS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations has allocated 20 million U.S. dollars for an urgent food security and nutrition campaign for hunger-hit northeast Nigeria, a UN spokesman said on Tuesday.

With 9 million dollars from the Central Emergency Response Fund and 11 million dollars from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund, "we will support the government-led response efforts across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states," said Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
