Vietnamese Security Ministry Releases Identities Of 39 Victims In Britain

HANOI, Nov 9 (NNN-VNA) – The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, announced here on Friday, the list of all 39 Vietnamese victims, in the incident of the container truck detected in the British county of Essex.

After determining the 39 people’s identities, Vietnam’s relevant authorities contacted each bereaved family, to provide them with information related to the victims, the ministry said in a statement, posted on its website.

Japan emperor greets public in parade marking enthronement

TOKYO (AP) — Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako waved and smiled from an open car in a parade Sunday marking Naruhito’s enthronement as hundreds of thousands of delighted well-wishers cheered, waved small flags and took photos from packed sidewalks.

Security was extremely tight, with police setting up 40 checkpoints leading to the parade area. Selfie sticks, bottles and banners — and even shouting — were not allowed inside the restricted zone. Residents in high-rise apartment buildings along the road were advised not to look down from their windows or balconies.

Protesters in Hong Kong vandalize subway station, storm mall

HONG KONG (AP) — Protesters in Hong Kong smashed windows in a subway station and a shopping mall Sunday following the arrest of pro-democracy lawmakers.

Hong Kong is in the sixth month of protests that began over a proposed China extradition law and have expanded to include demands for greater democracy and other grievances.

Authorities closed the subway stop in the northeastern district of Sha Tin after protesters broke windows and damaged a ticket machine. Police in riot gear stood guard but there was no indication of arrests.

Malaysian govt to send official letter to India on its stance on Zakir Naik

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send an official letter to the Indian government to explain Malaysia’s stance for not sending back controversial preacher Zakir Naik to his country of origin. 

Its minister Saifuddin Abdullah said he would discuss with Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to provide an accurate content for the letter.

“There was a request from India and Prime Minister (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) had already explained why we didn’t send (Dr Zakir) back.

China-U.S. trade war to ease but conflicts will persist - former finance minister

BEIJING (Reuters) - A Sino-U.S. trade war could ease somewhat but wider conflicts between the world’s two largest economies will continue, Lou Jiwei, a former Chinese finance minister, said on Saturday.

“Look at the next development, there could be compromises in the trade war at a certain stage, and we have seen signs of compromising,” Lou, now an official with a body that advises China’s parliament, told an economic forum in Beijing.

Abusive S Korean facility exported children

BUSAN, South Korea (AP) — A notorious South Korean facility that kidnapped, abused and enslaved children and the disabled for a generation was also shipping children overseas for adoption, part of a massive profit-seeking enterprise that thrived by exploiting those trapped within its walls, The Associated Press has found.

The AP, which previously exposed a government cover-up at Brothers Home and a far greater level of abuse than earlier known, has now found that the facility was part of an orphanage pipeline feeding the demand of private adoption agencies.

Beijing, Nov 8 (AFP) China has slammed radical protesters in Hong Kong as "mobsters" using violence to influence upcoming local elections, after a pro-Beijing lawmaker was injured in a stabbing.

The international finance hub has been shaken by five months of huge and increasingly violent protests calling for greater democratic freedoms and police accountability.

With Beijing and Hong Kong's unpopular leader Carrie Lam refusing to offer a political solution to the protesters' grievances, violence has spiralled on both sides of the ideological divide.
