Indonesia Launches Steps To Improve Manufacturing Sector Performance

JAKARTA, Sept 5 (NNN-ANTARA) – The Indonesian government, the central bank of Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Financial Service Authorities, jointly launched the six steps to improve performance of national manufacturing sector, amid decreasing contribution of the sector to the nation’s economic growth.

Lam says extradition bill will end without debate or vote

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said Thursday the extradition bill that sparked months of demonstrations in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory will be formally withdrawn in the legislative council without the need for debate or a vote.

Lam told a news conference that the move to withdraw the extradition bill, first announced Wednesday, was her government’s decision and that it was backed by Beijing.

China says trade talks with US to take place in October

BEIJING (AP) — U.S. and Chinese envoys will meet in early October for more talks aimed at ending a tariff war that threatens global economic growth.

Stock markets rose on Thursday’s announcement but there has been no sign of progress since Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed in June to resume deadlocked negotiations about trade and technology.

Earlier, investors were rattled by a report officials were struggling to agree on a schedule for talks originally planned for this month.

Dozens protest against Chinese influence in Kazakhstan

Hong Kong leader kills bill but some say too little too late

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday withdrew an extradition bill that triggered months of often violent protests so the Chinese-ruled city can move forward from a “highly vulnerable and dangerous” place and find solutions.

The announcement, live on television, came after Reuters reports on Friday and Monday revealed that Beijing had thwarted an earlier proposal from Lam to withdraw the bill and that she had said privately that she would resign if she could, according to a leaked audio recording.

Storm Podul hits 26 provinces in Thailand, killing 14

BANGKOK, Sept 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Tropical storm Podul has hit 26 provinces in Thailand, triggering floods and landslides, killing at least 14 people.

Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chayapol Thitisak said tropical storm Podul lashed the kingdom since Aug 29 to Sept 2 and 60,914 families were affected.

“Two are still missing in Amnat Charoen while one was injured in Chaiyaphum,” he said in a statement here Wednesday.

Malaysian PM To Visit Russia To Boost Economic Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, will make a three-day official visit to Russia, for the 5th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF 2019), in Russia’s Vladivostok, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said today (Wednesday).

Mahathir will be in the country between Wednesday and Friday, accompanied by several members of his cabinet, the ministry said in a statement.

Asian stocks rise after disappointing US manufacturing data

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stock markets rose Wednesday following surprise weakness in U.S. manufacturing and wrangling in Britain over the country’s departure from the European Union.

Benchmarks in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong advanced.

The Institute for Supply Management, an association of purchasing managers, said its manufacturing index slid to a 3½-year low of 49.1 last month from July’s 51.2.

Putin signs indefinite Treaty on Friendship with Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, September 3. /TASS/: The Russian and Mongolian Presidents, Vladimir Putin and Khaltmaagiin Battulga, have signed a new Treaty on Friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Mongolia.

The ceremony was held after talks between the two leaders at the Government Palace in Ulan Bator, where the Russian president arrived for an official visit.
