12 Dec 2022; MEMO: France's Sports Minister, Amelie Oudea-Castera has praised Qatar's "impressive" organisation and management of the World Cup, after her country's national team advanced to the semi-finals on Saturday night, defeating its English counterpart 2-1.

"We do not forget the words of His Highness the Emir (Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani) when he said: "Hello everyone," Oudea-Castera said after her country's qualification for the semi-finals, as reported by the Qatar News Agency on Sunday.

Macron to travel to Qatar for World Cup semis against Morocco

11 Dec 2022; MEMO: French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Qatar to attend the World Cup semi-final between France and Morocco on Wednesday, French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera said on Sunday, reports Reuters.

France, tournament winners in 2018, will play Morocco for a place in the final after they beat England 2-1 and the North Africans beat Portugal 1-0 in Saturday's earlier quarter-finals.

Germany Ambassador warns his country of 'serious harm' following World Cup criticism

According to the report, Ambassador Claudius Fischbach called on Berlin to change its strategy and improve diplomatic relations with Doha.

Morocco advances to World Cup quarter-finals after beating Spain on penalties

06 Dec 2022; MEMO: Morocco qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after beating Spain 3-0 on penalties on Tuesday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock for the first 45 minutes at Doha's Education City Stadium.

Despite several efforts from both sides in the second half, neither national team was able to produce a goal as the match went to extra time.

The extra time in the Round of 16 matches was 0-0. So, the penalty shootout decided the winning team.

Pakistan will pull out of Asia Cup if ACC shifts tournament due to India's objection

Rawalpindi, Dec 2 (PTI) Pakistan will pull out of the Asia Cup if Asian Cricket Council decides to shift the tournament, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said on Friday.

In October, Asian Cricket Council president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that India will not travel to Pakistan next year for the 50-over Asia Cup event after which PCB had threatened to pull out of the World Cup scheduled to be held in India.

Following Portugal's match against Ghana last week during the ongoing World Cup games, in which Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to score in five World Cups, CBS Sports reported that Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr Club was ready to present the famed player with a three-year deal. No confirmation was publicly made at the time.

Qatar slams European Parliament over human rights allegations

29 Nov 2022; MEMO: The Shura (Consultative) Council in Qatar yesterday expressed its rejection of a recent resolution by the European Parliament regarding human rights in the Gulf country.

The parliament adopted a resolution last Thursday calling on Doha and FIFA "to extend compensation for families of workers who suffered while building World Cup 2022 infrastructure." It said that there were human rights "abuses" that were believed to have caused the deaths of migrant workers.
