MOSCOW, July 17 (Reuters) - Russian investigators said on Saturday engine failure had caused a small passenger plane to make a forced landing in Siberia a day earlier, flipping the aircraft upside down but causing no serious injuries among the 18 people on board.

Fears had swirled over the fate of the Russian Antonov An-28 plane after it went missing on a flight from the town of Kedrovy to the city of Tomsk. Rescuers were dispatched found the survivors in a wooded area near the damaged aircraft. 

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian aircraft makers say they will present a prospective new fighter jet at a Moscow air show that opens next week.

The new warplane hidden under tarpaulin was photographed being towed to a parking spot across an airfield in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow, where the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon opens Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit the show’s opening.

Russian media reports said that the new jet has been built by the Sukhoi aircraft maker in a program of development of a light tactical fighter.

MOSCOW, July 16. /TASS/: The Delta variant of the coronavirus accounts for nearly 68% of new cases in July, Anna Popova, chief of Russia’s sanitary watchdog, said on Friday.

"According to the results of the molecular and genetic monitoring, the Delta strain occurrence has gone up from sporadic finds in April, to 41% in June and to 67.9% in July. It means that it currently accounts for around 70% of cases," she said.

MOSCOW, July 16. /TASS/: More than two million people were vaccinated against the novel coronavirus infection in the past month, Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin said on Friday.

"Some 1.7 million people were inoculated with the first dose over the previous six months and more than two million - in the past month alone," he said.

According to the Moscow mayor, around 3.8 million people in Moscow have received the first shot of the jab and more than two million have received both shots.

MOSCOW, July 16 (Reuters) - A former U.S. Marine who is serving a nine-year sentence in Russia was being transferred from a remand cell in Moscow on Friday to the Mordovia region which has a large number of tough, Soviet-era prisons.

Trevor Reed was convicted last year of endangering the lives of two policemen in Moscow while drunk, a charge he denied. He said the ruling was "clearly political", and Washington called the trial "theatre of the absurd".

MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian passenger plane with 17 people on board went missing Friday during a flight in Siberia.

The regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said the An-28 plane disappeared in the Tomsk region in western Siberia.

The emergencies office said the plan carried 14 passengers, including four children, and three crew members.

A search effort involving several helicopters is under way, officials said.

The An-28 is a small short-range, Soviet-designed turboprop used by many small carriers across Russia and some other countries.

MOSCOW, July 15. /TASS/: Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport is working as usual despite the bad weather conditions, head of the airport’s public relations department Anna Zakharenkova told TASS. The same situation is reported at Domodedovo Airport.

Earlier, a source in the emergency services told TASS that dozens of streets and part of the territory of Sheremetyevo Airport were flooded due to heavy rains in Moscow.
