Cuba Backs WHO After U.S. Announces Terminating Relationship

HAVANA, May 31 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Cuban government declared, on Saturday, its full support of the World Health Organisation (WHO), after the United States announced it is terminating its relationship with the global organisation.

Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez wrote on his Twitter account that, Cuba lends “its full support” to WHO and its management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuba receives donation from Chinese Communist Party

HAVANA, May 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — Cuba received a donation of medical supplies from the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee amid the Caribbean nation’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some 60,000 surgical face masks and 6,000 N95 face masks were handed over to Angel Arzuaga, deputy head of International Relations for the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, by Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Chen Xi at a ceremony at the warehouse of Cuban medical supplies distributing company ENSUME on the outskirts of capital Havana.

Venezuela says apprehended second ship with mercenaries

HAVANA, May 5. /TASS/: Venezuela’s law enforcement officers have apprehended eight people who tried to sneak into the country by sea. Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek William Saab reported Monday that they are mercenaries who could be linked to the attempt to invade Venezuela on Sunday.

"Our police officers are heading to the city of La Guaira [on the Caribbean shore] to convoy the new group of mercenaries who were going to the country aboard a ship and were detained [to Caracas]," he wrote on Twitter.

Around 1,200 Cuban doctors fight pandemic worldwide

HAVANA, April 18 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — About 1,200 Cuban health professionals have joined the battle against Covid-19 around the globe, Bruno Rodriguez, minister of Foreign Affairs, said.

On his Twitter account, Bruno Rodriguez posted that 21 medical brigades have taken Cuban solidarity to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America and the Caribbean, in times of pandemic.

On Thursday, Cuba´s Foreign Ministry stated that this country has responded to medical assistance requests without evaluating political differences or economic advantages.

Cuban medical brigade leaves for Togo to assist in virus crisis

HAVANA, Apr 13 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — A Cuban medical brigade left for Togo, in West Africa, to join actions against SARS CoV-2.

This is the first time that Cuban doctors will work in Togo, according to official sources.

Angola was the first country on the continent to receive Cuban doctors with enthusiasm and hope, on April 9.

Other specialists from the Henry Reeve International Contingent are fighting Covid-19 in 18 countries such as Italy, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Belize.

Cuba hits out at ‘cruel’ US sanctions during pandemic

HAVANA, April 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Cuba hit out at the United States over its nearly 60-year-old embargo against the island nation, which Havana described as “even more cruel” given the suffering caused by the new coronavirus pandemic.

The communist-run single-party island is finding it tough to source medical supplies and has already recorded 564 coronavirus cases and 15 deaths.

Cuba Suspends Arrival Of International Flights To Curb COVID-19

HAVANA, Apr 2 (NNN-XINHUA) – Cuba announced the decision to suspend the arrival of international passenger flights and withdraw all foreign boats from the Carribean island, as part of the measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

The decision came as the Cuban Ministry of Public Health reported 16 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 earlier in the day, bringing the total in the country to 186.

Cuba's manually-made hand sanitizers help tackle COVID-19 outbreak amid U.S. blockade

HAVANA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Havana Distillery, which used to produce alcohol for pharmaceutical and liquor industries, has turned into the only manual maker and distributor of hand sanitizers in Cuba amid a rising COVID-19 caseload nationwide.

"Antibacterial gels are very useful to tackle the epidemic outbreak on the island. We are producing 1,020 liters of hand sanitizers a day," said Margarita La Guardia, a senior specialist at the company. "The country needs us."

Cuba’s top diplomat slams US sanctions against Rosneft subsidiary

HAVANA, March 14. /TASS/: The US sanctions imposed on TNK Trading International S.A., a Rosneft subsidiary working with Venezuela, are a manifestation of a criminal policy directed against the interests of the people, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla wrote in a Twitter post.

Russia, UAE work together on upgrading Havana port infrastructure

HAVANA, March 13. /TASS/: New automatic grain unloader has begun operating in the Cuban port of Havana; this new installation will allow Cuba to reduce docking time for cargo ships and compensate for loss of capacity after last year’s tornado. Russia and the UAE, in cooperation with the UN World Food Programme, assisted in implementation of this project.

The launch ceremony was attended by Sergei Reshchikov, the Russian minister counsellor in Cuba, UAE ambassador Bader Almatrooshi, and World Food Programme representative Paolo Mattei.
