India: Bihar has voted for change: Cong

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) With the exit polls for Bihar out, the Congress on Saturday said Bihar has voted for change.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said exit polls are interesting as they provided employment to some people who use small samples, but people speak up at the end.

"We are confident that Bihar has voted for a change and Bihar will vote for the change," he told reporters.

WhatsApp starts payment service in India

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) WhatsApp on Friday said it is rolling out its payments services in India after receiving nod from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

In 2018, the Facebook-owned company had started testing its UPI-based payments service in India, which allows users to utilise the messaging platform to send and receive money. The testing was limited to about a million users as it waited for regulatory approvals to come in.

India: SC asks Centre to ensure no smog in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday asked the Centre to ensure there is no smog in Delhi-NCR as it was informed that the commission for air quality management will start functioning from today.

A bench of Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian posted the pleas related to air pollution for hearing after the Diwali vacation.

The Centre on Thursday appointed former Chief Secretary of Delhi M M Kutty chairperson of the Commission for Air Quality Management (AQM) in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas.

India: Haze chokes Delhi, pollution levels highest since November last year

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) A layer of haze lingered over the national capital and its suburbs on Thursday morning, with raging farm fires and a fall in the wind speed and temperatures pushing air quality to the worst levels in around a year.

As the skies hung heavy and acrid over the region, people complained of itchy throat and watery eyes.

India: 30-yr-old woman gang-raped in Delhi's Rohini

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three men in the parking area of a hospital in northwest Delhi's Rohini area, police said on Tuesday.

Police said they have arrested the three men -- a security guard and former bouncers of the hospital.

A senior police officer said that the woman, along with another woman, was staying in the waiting room of the hospital for about past 10 days.

Delhi facing third wave of coronavirus: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the city has seen a jump in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the last few days and it can be called a "third wave".

Kejriwal said people do not need to panic and the government was monitoring the situation regularly.

"Delhi has witnessed a jump in the number of COVID-19 cases. I think we can call it a third wave," he told reporters.

India: SC junks plea against election of Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad seat

New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a plea challenging the election of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in 2019 from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.

A bench comprising Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian initially passed over the matter as none appeared on behalf of Saritha S Nair, who has challenged Gandhi's election.

Later, in a hearing conducted through video conferencing, the bench dismissed her appeal against the Kerala High Court order.

Indian Govt blocks 12 pro-Khalistani websites

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The government has ordered to block 12 websites linked to pro-Khalistani outfits, a source aware of the development said on Tuesday.

Some of the blocked websites were being directly operated by outlawed organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

These websites were carrying pro-Khalistani content.

Indian bypolls: Voting underway in 54 assembly seats across 10 states

Bhopal/Lucknow/Ahmedabad, Nov 3 (PTI) Thousands of people on Tuesday battled corona fears and queued up outside polling booths across 10 states to vote in by-elections to 54 assembly constituencies, including 28 in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP is locked in a high-stakes contest with the Congress to save its government.
