Indian Govt to bring new law to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) With Delhi continuing to grapple with increasing levels of pollution, the Centre has decided to soon bring in a new legislation to curb air pollution in the city and NCR, a top official from the Ministry of Environment said.

The new law will be only for Delhi and NCR. It will come out soon. I cannot comment on what penalties it will entail. It is a new law to curb pollution in Delhi NCR region only. Air Act is for the nation and it will be as it is, Environment Secretary, R P Gupta, told PTI.

Delhi's air quality 'very poor'

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was recorded in the 'very poor' category on Monday morning and the share of stubble burning in the city's PM2.5 pollution is likely to increase, according to a central government agency.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor, SAFAR, said the wind direction and the wind speed is favourable for the transport of the pollutants from farm fires in Haryana, Punjab, and other neighbouring regions to Delhi.

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) Asserting that India stands firmly with its brave soldiers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to light a 'diya' at their homes to honour security forces guarding its borders while they celebrate festivals.

In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' radio broadcast, Modi wished people on Dussehra and said that with various festivals coming up, they need to show patience and follow health guidelines in celebrating these auspicious occasions during the COVID times.

India: Schools not opening for now in Delhi: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Oct 24 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday ruled out reopening of schools in the national capital for now.

"Schools are not reopening for now," Kejriwal told reporters on sidelines of an event.

The government had earlier announced that schools will continue to remain closed till October 31 in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

India: BJP politicising Punjab rape due to Bihar polls: Cong

New Delhi, Oct 24 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday accused the BJP of showing insensitivity towards the Hoshiarpur rape victim and said the ruling party was politicising the issue due to Bihar elections.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that unlike the Uttar Pradesh government, the Punjab government was not denying that the girl was raped and it was not blocking justice.

He said if they did, he would go there and fight for justice too.

India: Kapil Dev discharged from hospital

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) India's first World Cup winning-captain Kapil Dev was on Sunday discharged from a city hospital, two days after undergoing angioplasty following a heart attack.

The 61-year-old complained of chest pain on Thursday following which he was taken to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute's emergency department.

He is doing fine now.

India: Chopper scam: Court grants interim bail to middleman Rajeev Saxena

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) A Delhi court on Friday granted interim bail to Dubai-based businessman and alleged middleman Rajiv Saxena in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam case.

The court granted interim bail to him on a personal bond of Rs two lakh and one surety of like amount till December 11, the next date of hearing.

The CBI opposed his regular bail application and sought time to file a reply in this regard.

India: 379 girls from Delhi govt schools crack NEET

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) From an electrician's daughter to an elder sibling of five surviving on limited resources, 379 girls from Delhi government schools have cracked the medical entrance exam NEET this year.

Twenty-three girls from a government school in Okhla's Noor Nagar are elated over their feat though some of them plan to appear for the exam again to improve their scores.
