India: Jajmau road from Nai Chungi to Galla Godam Turn dreads

Kanpur: Jajmau is a fast growing town both in terms of population and business. It is still famed as leather hub, though much of its work has shifted to Unnao side and other areas. But Jajmau is still synonymous with leather.The tanneries were so big as the work used to be done inside its precincts.

With passing of days the shops were spread particularly from Nai Chungi to the road turning towards Galla Godam. If we look at simply the length of the road, it is neiher good nor wide enough. On both the sides of the road there remains usual traffic jam with visible encroachments.

India: Cabinet approves leasing out three major airports of AAI

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) The Union Cabinet gave its approval on Wednesday to the proposals for leasing out three major airports -- Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mangaluru -- of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) through public-private partnership (PPP), an official spokesperson said.

Earlier this year, the Adani group had won the bids to operate the three airports for a period of 50 years.

The Adani group had also won the bids to operate the Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram airports, owned by the AAI.

India: IAF lost 44 aircraft and choppers since 2014-15

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) Forty-four aircraft and helicopters of the Indian Air Force were lost in crashes since 2014-15 in which 46 personnel were killed, according to government data.

The break up of the aircraft lost is 26 fighter jets, six helicopters, nine trainer aircraft and three transport planes.

The details of the crashes since 2014-15 were provided in Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik while replying to a question.

The IAF lost 11 aircraft and helicopters each in the year 2014-15 and 2019-20.

India: Suspected cattle lifter lynched in Tripura

Agartala, July 3 (PTI) A suspected cattle lifter was lynched in a remote tribal hamlet near the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura's Dhalai district, a senior police officer said Wednesday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Arindam Nath said a man was lynched by a group of villagers on suspicion of being a cattle lifter at Noarampara, under the jurisdiction of Raishyabari police station on Tuesday night.

India: Five students held in gang rape case

Bengaluru, Jul 3 (PTI) Five students of a private college in Dakshina Kannada district were arrested Wednesday on charges of raping their college mate, a dalit girl, in March this year, police said.

The incident came to light this week after a video of the act went viral.

The arrested have been identified as Gurunandan and Sunil of Puttur and Prajwal, Kishan and Prakhyath from Bantwal, all aged 19 years, police said.

India: 219 Myanmarese refugees deported

Aizawl, Jul 3 (PTI) The Lawngtlai district administration and the Assam Rifles have deported 219 refugees from Myanmar, who had taken shelter in Mizoram's Hmawngbuchhuah village, a top district official said on Wednesday.

Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Shashanka Ala told PTI that the "mission" (deportation) was accomplished on Tuesday as directed by the Centre.

"All the refugees have reached the other side of the border from Laitlang village in Mizoram to Vairang village in Myanmar...on Tuesday," she said.

India: Over 32,000 animals killed on railway tracks in 2016-18

New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) More than 32,000 animals, including cattle, lions and leopards, have been killed on railway tracks in the past three years, according to data provided by the railways.

Additionally, this year, till June 20, 3,479 animals were killed after being run over by trains. This does not include elephants, 60 of whom were killed in the last three years and five this year till June 20.

India: UP started screening of corrupt police officials

Lucknow, Jul 4 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has started an operation to screen corrupt police officials who will be asked to take compulsory retirement, the state's top cop said Thursday.

"The idea is to refurbish the image of the state police. As part of of the clean-up efforts, corrupt policemen will be asked to take compulsory retirement," DGP, OP Singh, told PTI.

India: Cong workers ask Rahul to withdraw resignation

Mumbai, Jul 4 (PTI) As Rahul Gandhi reached a court here to appear before it in a defamation case, many Congress supporters gathered outside shouted slogans, asking him to rescind his resignation as the party chief.

Across the road from the metropolitan court building, around 150 Congress supporters held placards and shouted slogans asking Gandhi to take back his resignation as the party's president.

Congress workers also shouted similar slogans outside Mumbai airport when Gandhi landed here this morning.
