Turkiye: 'We do not accept US threats, bullying against Saudi Arabia'

22 October 2022; MEMO: Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has stated that his country cannot accept US threats to Saudi Arabia after the OPEC+ decision to reduce oil production.

In a statement reported by Turkiye's Anadolu Agency, Cavusoglu announced: "We are seeing that a country is threatening Saudi Arabia, and this bullying is not correct."

In letter, Sweden lists 'concrete actions' on Turkey's concerns over NATO bid

ISTANBUL, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Sweden has taken "concrete action" to address Turkey's concerns over its NATO membership bid, including stepping up counter-terrorism efforts against Kurdish militants, Stockholm told Ankara in a letter dated Oct. 6 and seen by Reuters.

The two-page letter gives 14 examples of steps taken by Sweden to show it "is fully committed to the implementation" of a memorandum it signed with Turkey and Finland in June, which resulted in NATO member Turkey lifting its veto of their applications to the trans-Atlantic security alliance.

Türkiye dismisses PKK claim of chemical weapons use in Iraq

Turkey will create international hub to supply Russian gas to Europe — Erdogan

2 Spanish tourists killed, 3 injured in hot air balloon accident in Türkiye’s Cappadocia

ANKARA, Oct 18 (NNN-Xinhua) — Two Spanish tourists were killed and three others injured on Tuesday in a hot air balloon accident in Türkiye’s popular tourist destination Cappadocia, local authorities said.

The balloon belonging to a private company took off from the Zelve Ruins of Avanos district in Nevsehir province and made a hard landing in the Killik region due to unexpected wind, the office of the provincial governor said in a statement.

Türkiye detains 543 for suspected links to 2016 failed coup: minister

ANKARA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 543 people on Tuesday in an operation across 59 provinces for their suspected links to a network accused by the government of orchestrating a coup in 2016, a minister said.

The eight-month-long investigation aimed at deciphering the structure, recruitment process of new personnel and financial resources of the Gulen movement, which the Turkish government accuses of infiltrating into the state bureaucracy and attempting the coup, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said at a press conference.

Extension of Istanbul grain deal obstructed by Russia, Ukraine disagreements

In an interview in Istanbul yesterday, the UN coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Amir Abdulla, revealed that Moscow and Kyiv are seeking to change some terms of the Turkish and UN-brokered agreement in order to extend it beyond its 19 November deadline.

Turkey's exports to Middle East increases to $24.7bn

Turkish prosecutors launch probe into mine blast in N. Türkiye

ANKARA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Five prosecutors were appointed to investigate an underground coal mine explosion that killed 41 workers in northern Türkiye, the country's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said Sunday.

"I would like to express clearly to the public that this incident will be investigated and clarified in all its aspects. No matter how many questions there are, they will all be answered," he said.
