Turkiye: explosion in Mersin yesterday, police officers injured

27 Sep 2022; MEMO: One Turkish police officer was killed, late on Monday, and another was injured after a bomb exploded near a residence that houses police in the Mezitli district of Mersin province, Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu confirmed, Anadolu News Agency reports.

According to the Turkish Minister, the two females that carried out the attack first shot at the police officer and, later, detonated bombs that were attached to them.

Turkiye says Malaysia, Indonesia interested in buying armed drones

26 Sep 2022; MEMO: Turkiye said that Malaysia and Indonesia had expressed keen interest in buying armed drones from Turkish Defence firm, Baykar, Reuters reports.

According to the report, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, announced Malaysian-Turkish partnership during a press conference in Tokyo.

"Many Asian countries, especially Malaysia and Indonesia, show great interest in our defence industry products. Agreements are being signed," Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, said.

Turkiye, Qatar activate agreement to deploy Qatar fighters in Turkiye

25 Sep 2022; MEMO: Turkiye and Qatar have decided to activate a joint military agreement to deploy 36 Qatari fighters and 250 military personnel for training in Turkiye, TRT reported on Thursday.

According to TRT, the Technical Regulation on the Deployment of Qatar Military Aircraft Personnel in Turkiye was signed in March 2021.

Qatari fighter pilots will receive training in Turkiye, and Qatar will keep 250 military personnel and 36 warplanes in the country for training purposes.

Jamal Khashoggi's wife to sue Israel's blacklisted Pegasus spyware

23 Sep 2022; MEMO: The wife of journalist, Jamal Khashoggi who was assassinated by Saudi intelligence, is planning to sue the notorious Israeli spyware developed by the NSO Group.

Hanan Elatr, 52, also intends to sue Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their alleged involvement in installing the Israeli company's Pegasus software on her mobile phone, The Guardian reported yesterday.

Russian men join exodus, fearing call-up to fight in Ukraine

ISTANBUL (AP) — Military-aged men fled Russia in droves Friday, filling planes and causing traffic jams at border crossings to avoid being rounded up to fight in Ukraine following the Kremlin’s partial military mobilization.

Queues stretching for 10 kilometers (6 miles) formed on a road leading to the southern border with Georgia, according to Yandex Maps, a Russian online map service.

Turkiye's Erdogan to hold meeting on Russian MIR payments

22 Sep 2022; MEMO: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will convene a top tier economy-focused meeting on Friday at which Russian payment system, MIR, and possible Western sanctions will be discussed, two sources with information on the matter told Reuters.

The meeting with government officials and others will also address agreements with Russia, recent heavy volatility on the Istanbul stock exchange and the general economic situation, the sources said, requesting anonymity, Reuters reports.
