India: Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping woman in UP

Fatehpur (UP), Nov 3 (PTI) A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a court here for raping a woman here in 2018.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Lalbabu Yadav, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict Raju Vishwakarma, government counsel RB Srivastava said on Tuesday.

Vishwakarma was arrested two days after the crime on May 29, 2018 and has been in jail ever since.

India: UP additional chief secy tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow, Nov 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), a senior official said on Tuesday.

Prasad has been briefing the media here about the COVID-19 situation in Uttar Pradesh.

"Prasad was on Monday admitted to the SGPGI after testing positive for the virus. A team of senior doctors is monitoring him," PGI Director, RK Dhiman, said.

India: HS & Inter students to appear first for Pre Board exams in UP

Kanpur: The students appearing at class 10th & 12th through the UP Board will now have to appear in pre-Board exams from this on going academic session.

This exam is supposed to be held in the first week of December. Giving this information,UP Principal Parishad president, Dr Girish Mishra told that the Pre Board examinations would be organised in the next month's first week.

Experts say this will help them assess themselves about their preparations for the examinations. They will thus learn of their real level of knowledge.

India: Woman set on fire in UP by son, wife, his in-laws

Shahjahanpur (UP), Nov 2 (PTI) A woman was allegedly set afire on Monday by her son, daughter-in-law and others in Jalalabad area over a family dispute, police said.

Ratna Devi (58) was set ablaze by her son Akash Gupta, his wife Deep Shikha and Akash's parents-in-law, Superintendent of Police Aparna Gautam said.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the rescue and took her to the hospital besides informing the police.

The condition of the woman, who is admitted in a medical college here, is stated to be critical, the SP said.

India: Tannery owners demand a fire station for Jajmau

Kanpur: There is a pressing need of a Fire Station in Jajmau here. Demand from the tannery owners has been recently raised. They stated if the new fire station is opened in this prominent area of the city, their trouble will be resolved extensively.

Explaining their points the tannery owners said that the present fire station existed at a long distance of 8-km from this place. Therefore they have urged the divisional commissioner, Dr Raj Sekhar, to consider over their request in an urgent manner.

Unhealthy air quality causes illness to denizens

Kanpur: The city's air quality is not healthy as the weather gazers say. The air quality index rests at 366 on Sunday evening here. The hourly temperature at 4 pm has been recorded at 33 degrees Celsius here.

The air quality being unhealthy brings trouble to the residents. Even elders are not feeling safe from the feverish state, headache and body pain. The children up to 12 years of age suffer from cough and other symptoms.

India: Man held for rape bid on 4-year-old in UP's Hamirpur

Hamirpur (UP), Oct 31 (PTI) A 30-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to rape a four-year-old girl here, police said.

According to Kotwali SHO Vikramjeet Singh, the girl's father alleged that Ramkaran, who runs a motorcycle repair shop, took his daughter to a secluded place and tried to rape her.

As locals rushed to the spot on hearing her cries, the accused, who was in an inebriated condition, fled, Singh said.

India: Yoga trainer arrested for raping woman in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 31 (PTI) A yoga trainer was arrested for allegedly raping a woman on the promise of marriage, police said on Saturday.

Rishi Pandey was arrested in Basti district Friday evening on the complaint of a woman yoga trainer, Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar said.

D K Saroj, Station House Officer of Walterganj police station, said an FIR was lodged on the complaint of a woman against Pandey on September 17.

India: Ex-BDC member shot dead in UP, SI arrested

Kanpur (UP) Oct 31 (PTI) A former Block Development Council member was allegedly shot dead by some policemen and their accomplices in Bhadras village of the district leading to the arrest of a police sub-inspector and two others on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Pappu Bajpai, 45, a resident of Bhadras village in Ghatampur area, said Kanpur Superintendent of Police (Rural) Brajesh Srivastava on Saturday.

India: Woman lost in mysterious circumstances from Central station

Kanpur: One woman working as a reservation booking clerk at Central station here was disappeared in mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. A missing report was lodged with the GRP by the relatives on Friday.

According to the reports the GRP made it clear that she proceeded to her husband's house.

While the relatives said she did not return to the house after completing the duty in the shift timing from 6 am to 2 pm on October 28.
