India: Police barrack-roof collapsed in UP's Kanpur, one died

Kanpur: None was penalised for collapsing of the roof of the barrack no 1 in the Police Lines here, though one police personal died in the damage.

It is reported that the room was in a very dilapidated condition. Despite its poor condition, there was little care given to the structure. 

Even the repairing was not initiated from the fund the police department received during the past days.

The policeman Arvind Singh R/o Lalpur Bewar of Mainpuri district lost his life in this roof collapse on August 24. 

India: Mayawati siding with BJP, alleges SP

Lucknow, Oct 29 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party on Thursday attacked BSP chief Mayawati, accusing her of siding with the BJP and fielding a candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls without seeking support from opposition parties in the state.

The statement came hours after Mayawati suspended seven of her MLAs for anti-party activities after they opposed the nomination of Ramji Gautam as the party candidate for the elections to the Rajya Sabha.

India: Youth burnt alive by uncle in UP

Banda (UP), Oct 29 (PTI) A youth was allegedly burnt alive by his uncle in Jabrapur village here, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday in Fagehganj area when one Binda Prasad (55) set Ram Bhorase ablaze after sprinkling petrol on him, they said.

The victim was rushed to hospital in a serious condition where he died during treatment, police said.

According to Circle Officer Satyaprakash Sharma, the youth was not returning money he had taken from the accused.

Police is probing the matter, he said.

India: 7-yr-old raped in UP's Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 30 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy at a village here, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, and the boy has been apprehended, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aparna Gautam said.

He will be produced before a Juvenile Court, the officer said and added that the girl has been admitted to a hospital.

India: KDA raises structures on KMC lands: Mayor

Kanpur: It is not only one takes into one's possession another's land but one case has startled us.

This is the possession of the government land by the government body itself.

The KDA has taken lands of the KMC into its possession and went on building houses under the Kanshiram Yojna.

The Development Authority did not care to check the owner of the land which, as Mayor Pramila Pandey said, solely belonged to Kanpur Municipal Corporation.

She further added action will be initiated on those who made constructions on the land.

India: Mayawati suspends seven rebel MLAs, says will vote for BJP candidate

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) BSP leader Mayawati on Thursday suspended seven of her party's rebel MLAs who had opposed the nomination of its official candidate Ramji Gautam for the elections to the Rajya Sabha.

Amid speculation that the MLAs could switch sides in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati also said that to ensure defeat of Samajwadi Party candidates in future MLC elections, her party will vote for BJP or any other party's candidate.

India: 15-yr-old girl raped in UP's Barabanki

Barabanki (UP), Oct 28 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in a village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl went out for some work, they said.

Upon hearing the screams of the girl, locals rushed to the spot and caught hold of the accused, identified as Punna alias Rakesh (38). Later, they handed him over to police, SHO Manoj Sharma said.

India: Ambedkar's statue found damaged in UP

Ballia (UP), Oct 28 (PTI) A statue of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar was found vandalised in Kotiya village under the Nagara Police Station area here, police said on Wednesday.

The villagers found the damaged statue, which was installed on the side of the village road, on Tuesday night, Yadvendra Pande, SHO, Nagara said.

Senior police officials reached the spot and pacified the people with an assurance that a new statue of the esteemed personality will be installed soon.

India: 121 polluting units demolished in Ghaziabad since Oct 15

Ghaziabad, Oct 27 (PTI) A total of 121 polluting factories have been razed in Ghaziabad's Loni town since October 15, with a dozen units being demolished on Tuesday, District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said.

To contain air pollution, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) from October 15.

Pandey told PTI that the district administration is taking all steps to curb air pollution, with polluting units being demolished and hefty fines being imposed on violators.

India: Man booked in UP for objectionable post against Modi, Yogi

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 26 (PTI) A man has been booked for allegedly sharing an objectionable post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath on social media, police said here on Monday.

Superintendent of Police S Anand said one Ravi Kumar Gupta shared a picture of demon king Ravana's effigy on his Facebook account with photos of four leaders, including Modi and Adityanath, on it.

He said the FIR was lodged on the complaint of Vishal Kumar, a resident of Jalalabad township here.
