India: Man held for raping woman on pretext of marriage in UP's Kanpur

Kanpur (UP), Oct 22 (PTI) A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman for over a year on the pretext of marriage under the Chakeri Police Station area here, police said.

The woman, a private tutor, met the accused at the house of one of her students. He befriended her about a year ago, they said.

India: Youth held for raping teen girl in UP's Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Oct 22 (PTI) A youth was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Modinagar area of Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, police said.

The youth and the girl are neighbours. He allegedly barged into the teenager's house around 12.30 am and took her to the terrace where he raped her, Modinagar police station SHO Jai Karan Singh told PTI.

When the girl screamed for help, he apparently assaulted her. The girl's family members woke up and caught hold of him. Some of her neighbours also gathered there and thrashed him.

India: UP family court orders wife to pay Rs 1,000 monthly maintenance allowance to husband

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 22 (PTI) A family court here has ordered a woman, who is a government pensioner, to pay a monthly maintenance allowance to her husband, following a petition filed by the latter in this regard.

The woman and the husband have been living separately for many years. The man had filed a petition in 2013 under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, seeking maintenance allowance from his wife.

India: UP BJP Kisan Morcha leader killed in road accident

Chitrakoot (UP) Oct 22 ( PTI) Vice president of Uttar Pradesh BJP Kisan Morcha, Jay Vijay Singh, was killed after his SUV collided with another vehicle here, police said on Thursday.

Singh, who was the former district unit chief of the party, was seriously injured in the accident near Bedi Puliya on Wednesday evening, police said.

He was rushed to Prayagraj where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday night.

The body has been sent for postmortem.

India: Minor abducted, raped by neighbour in UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 21 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by her neighbour in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.

The matter came to light following a complaint by the girl's family in Kairana police station, they said.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl was alone at her house. The man allegedly took her to an isolated place and raped her, police said.

She disclosed the matter to her family, following which they lodged the complaint, they said.

India: 2 brothers booked for attempt to rape in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Oct 20 (PTI) A case has been registered against two brothers for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl in Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

Circle Officer of Police of Naraini area Siyaram said the duo made the attempt to rape on Sunday and the case was registered on Monday.

"A case was registered against the two youths for allegedly trying to rape a 13-year-old girl. The medical examination of the girl has been done. Efforts are on to nab the main accused, who is at large," the police officer said.

India: 11-yr-old girl raped by two, including uncle in UP's Amethi

Amethi (UP) Oct 20 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two people, including her uncle, in a village under Musafirkhana Kotwali police station area, police said on Tuesday.

The girl was returning from tuition on Friday afternoon when she was allegedly raped near her village, said Amethi Superintendent of Police Dinesh Singh.

Both the accused, including the victim's uncle, have been arrested and further action is being taken, he added.

India: 88 candidates left in fray for 7 UP assembly bypolls

Lucknow, Oct 19 (PTI) A total of 88 candidates for seven seats were left in the fray for the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypolls after the last date of withdrawal for nominations for it on Monday.

"Eighty-eight candidates left in the fray after the withdrawal process got over. The last date for filing nominations for the bypolls was on October 16. The papers were scrutinised on Saturday while Monday is the last date for the withdrawal of nominations," a state Election Commission official said here.

India: UP govt's Mission Shakti a false propaganda: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Oct 19 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday described the Mission Shakti launched by the Yogi Adityanath government as a false propaganda.

The UP chief minister had started the programme from Balrampur district on Saturday with an aim to protect and empower women.

Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement that the BJP government launched the programme as rape incidents in the state started bringing disrepute to it.

India: CBI questions 4 accused arrested in Hathras rape-murder case

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) The CBI on Monday questioned all the four accused lodged in Aligarh prison for alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a 19-year old Dalit woman in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, officials said.

The CBI team had taken permission of the court to examine the accused - Sandeep, Luvkush, Ravi and Ramu - who are in judicial custody, they said.
