Italy opposition leader Conte asks government to stop arms supplies to Israel

16 November 2023; MEMO: Leader of populist opposition party, 5-Star Movement (M5S) and former Premier, Giuseppe Conte, called on Italy’s far-right government to stop arms supplies to Israel, criticising its “lack of courage” in dealing with the conflict in Gaza, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Immediately suspend arms supplies to Israel" Conte told Parliament on Wednesday, during question time on the crisis in the Middle East.

Egypt: Rafah crossing is open and pressure must be put on Israel, says foreign minister

16 November 2023; MEMO: Egypt’s Foreign Minister has called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to allow aid into the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. “The Rafah crossing is open on our side,” Sameh Shoukry told journalists, “but the entry of aid is subject to approval from the Israeli side.”

Activists in the UK blockade factories in protest against Israeli weapons production

16 November 2023; MEMO: A group of activists in Liverpool occupied the offices, early Thursday, of Fisher German, property managers of an Israeli weapons factory in Shenstone in the UK, Anadolu Agency reports.

Activists from Palestine Action entered Fisher German’s offices and demanded an immediate end to the company’s association with the Israeli weapons manufacturer.

Israeli tanks surround Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City

16 November 2023; MEMO: The Palestine Red Crescent Society announced, on Thursday, that Israeli tanks are besieging Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza City, and its ambulance teams are unable to reach the injured people due to the intense clashes, Anadolu Agency reports.

The society said in a statement on Facebook that tanks are surrounding Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, and there are intense clashes.

It added, "Red Crescent ambulance teams are unable to move to reach the injured and wounded".

Israel refuses visit from UN Human Rights chief

17 November 2023; MEMO: Israel has rejected a request for a visit from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, amid growing concern over the escalation of violence in its war on Gaza.

According to Euro News, the Israeli mission to the United Nations in Geneva told the French news agency AFP in response to a question about Turk’s request to visit Israel, “Israel is not aware of any additional benefit to a visit from the High Commissioner at this time.”

Israel army destroys medical departments at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza

17 November 2023; MEMO: The Ministry of Health in Gaza has stated that the Israeli army destroyed medical departments in its attack on Al-Shifa Hospital.

Sources inside the Al-Shifa complex also reported that Israeli bulldozers began destroying the southern part of the complex and are advancing to demolish other departments.

India not ruling out investigation into Canada's allegations over Nijjar, but wants evidence: EAM Jaishankar

London, Nov 16 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is not ruling out an investigation into Canada's allegations about the involvement of the Indian government's agents in the killing of a Canadian citizen Khalistani separatist in that country but wants it to provide evidence to back its claims.

Jaishankar made the comments on Wednesday in response to questions during a conversation with veteran journalist Lionel Barber titled ‘How a Billion People See the World' here.
