Delhi's Jama Masjid to reopen on July 4

New Delhi, Jun 30 (PTI) The historic Jama Masjid, which had closed earlier this month due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the city, will reopen for congregational prayers (namaz) from July 4, Shahi Imam of the mosque Syed Ahmed Bukhari said on Tuesday.

The mosque was closed on June 11 in view of the "critical" conditions in the city due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, till June 30.

India: Recovery rate of COVID-19 patients nearing 60%

New Delhi, June 30 (PTI) The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the country is fast approaching 60 per cent, with the Union Health Ministry attributing it to

collective and focussed efforts of the Centre and states for containment and management of the pandemic.

As on date, there are 1,19,696 more recovered patients than COVID-19 active cases.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 2,15,125, while 3,34,821 patients have been cured/discharged. A total of 13,099 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.

India's COVID-19 tally climbs to 566,840, Tamil Nadu surpasses Delhi in case count

New Delhi, June 30 (PTI) With 18,522 people testing positive for coronavirus in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 5,66,840 on Tuesday while the death toll rose to 16,893 with 418 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Recording nearly 4,000 cases in the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu has surpassed Delhi to regain the second spot among the list of worst-hit states by the pandemic, while Karnataka also recorded more than 1,100 overtaking Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

India bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok

Decesion came after a survey showing more than 60% saying that Indian government has not taken suitable steps to give China a befitting reply after recent violence at LAC in which an army officer and 19 Indian soldiers were killed, and Chinese forces encroached the lands across LAC..

India: Single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases takes tally to 5,48,318

New Delhi, Jun 29 (PTI) A single-day spike of 19,459 COVID-19 cases took India's tally to 5,48,318 on Monday, while the death toll climbed to 16,475 with 380 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data

This is the sixth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000. The country has seen a surge of 3,57,783 infections from June 1 till date

The number of active cases stands at 2,10,120, while 3,21,722 people have recovered, and one patient has migrated, according to the updated data

India adds nearly 20,000 cases, highest single-day spike

New Delhi, June 28 (PTI) India recorded close to 20,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day for the first time on Sunday, taking the tally to 5,28,859, while the death toll rose to16,095, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The data updated at 8 am showed 19,906 new cases, while 410 persons succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

This is the fifth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000. The country saw a surge of 3,38,324 infections from June 1 till date.

Addressing the 90th birthday celebrations of Rev Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan in Pathanamthitta of Kerala via video conference, he said, "We have taken decisions not from comfortable government offices in Delhi but after feedback from people on the ground."

India: Army Chief briefs Rajnath on eastern Ladakh situation

New Delhi, Jun 26 (PTI) Army Chief Gen MM Naravane on Friday briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the overall situation in eastern Ladakh as well as India's military preparedness in the region where Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a bitter standoff, official sources said.

The Army Chief was in Ladakh on a two-day visit from June 23 to take stock of the situation.

"The Chief of the Army Staff apprised the defence minister about the situation in eastern Ladakh," said a military source.

India's records highest single-day COVID-19 spike with over 18,000 cases; death toll rises to 15,685

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Six days after it recorded four lakh infections, India's COVID-19 tally raced past five lakh on Saturday with the highest single-day surge of 18,552 cases, while the death toll climbed to 15,685, according to Union health ministry data.

The COVID-19 caseload zoomed to 5,08,953, while?384 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours, the updated figure at 8 am showed.
