India: SC grants a month more to Centre for giving permanent commission to women officers in Army

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court Tuesday granted one more month to the Centre to implement its verdict directing that permanent commission be given to all serving SSC women officers in the Army.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra said the Centre will have to comply with all the directions in the verdict.

The Centre told the bench that decision making on the issue is at a final stage and only formal orders remain to be issued.

India: Prasar Bharati gets 5 new board members

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) Five part-time members have been appointed to the Prasar Bharati Board, including veteran journalist Ashok Kumar Tandon, music composer Salim Merchant and BJP's Shaina NC, according to an official order on Tuesday.

The government is in the process of reconstituting the Prasar Bharati Board as certain positions have been lying vacant, including that of the chairman.

India: Bhima Koregaon: SC sets aside Delhi HC order on Navlakha, says it has no jurisdiction

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday sets aside the Delhi High Court order asking the NIA to produce the judicial records with regard to transfer of civil rights activist Gautam Navlakha from Delhi to Mumbai in connection with the Bhima Koregaon case saying it is the courts at Bombay alone having the jurisdiction, which can entertain the application .

India ranks 34th in JLL's Global Realty Transparency Index

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) India's Global Real Estate Transparency Index ranking has improved by one notch to 34 on the back of regulatory reforms, better market data and green initiatives, according to property consultant JLL.

India was ranked 35th in the index during 2018 bi-annual survey, while the country was at 36th position in 2016 and 39th in 2014.

The country's real estate market is currently placed in the 'semi-transparent' zone.

India: 71 new COVID-19 cases in CRPF

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) Seventy-one more Central Reserve Police Force personnel have tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday, officials said.

Out of the total 1,635 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country's largest paramilitary force, 842 personnel are under treatment, while 784 have recovered.

Seventy-one cases of the pathogen were reported in the last 24 hours, while there have been 37 recoveries during the same period, according to the officials.

Lucknow July 6 (PTI) The AAP on Monday demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the political links and patronage enjoyed by Vikas Dubey whose gang members killed eight policemen in an ambush at a village near Kanpur last week.

"Dubey had 60 cases against him and was moving about scot-free. Why was he not arrested, Aam Aadmi Party national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh told reporters here.

India: Union minister Pratap Sarangi goes into home quarantine

Bhubaneswar, Jul 7 (PTI) Union minister and Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi has quarantined himself at his New Delhi residence after a BJP MLA from Odisha has shared the dais with at two events last week tested positive for COVID-19.

In a series of tweets on Monday night, the Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) said he is "hale and hearty".

Sarangi said he had shared the dais with Sukanta Kumar Nayak, the MLA from Nilagiri constituency in Balasore district, at two events on July 2 and 3.

Delhi's COVID-19 tally crosses 100,000; death toll climbs to 3,115

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) Delhi's COVID-19 tally on Monday breached the one lakh-mark as the city recorded 1,379 fresh coronavirus cases, while the death toll mounted to 3,115, authorities said.

Forty-eight fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi health department bulletin.

On June 23, the national capital had reported its highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases.

However, in the last few days, the number of fresh cases have oscillated, not showing a particular trend in figures.

India: Priyanka Gandhi hits out at UP govt over rising crime

New Delhi, Jul 5 (PTI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday targeted the Uttar Pradesh government over the deteriorating law and order situation and demanded accountability for the rising number of murders in the state.

She said while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claims in his campaigns that Uttar Pradesh has become crime-free, but the reality is otherwise.

Gandhi also alleged that over 50 murders have taken place in the northern state in the last one week.
