KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia and New Zealand have agreed on upgrading the regional ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA (AANZFTA) which is undergoing a comprehensive review, Senior Minister cum International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said.

This is following his virtual meeting with New Zealand Minister for Trade Damien O’Connor.

“We reaffirmed the importance of our bilateral and trade and investment ties,” Mohamed Azmin tweeted.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (NNN-Bernama) — The number of new COVID-19 cases in the country continues to drop Monday to 6,824, bringing the cumulative total to 572,357 cases, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Sunday, the country’s COVID-19 daily tally dropped significantly to 6,999 cases from the all-time high of 9,020 recorded on Saturday.

Through his tweet Monday, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor state still recorded the highest number of new cases at 2,111, followed by Kelantan (695), Sarawak (654), Johor (489), Kedah (464), Kuala Lumpur (387) and Melaka (352).

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, on Thursday held in-depth discussions on the issues of Myanmar and Palestine.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement said the discussion was held after Antonio contacted Muhyiddin by telephone, which shows the UN’s recognition of the important roles played by Malaysia in the issues of Myanmar and Palestine at the international level.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia has procured more vaccines and aims to accelerate inoculations starting next month, a Cabinet minister said Thursday, as the government struggles to contain a worsening coronavirus crisis.

Science Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government has bought an additional 12.8 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, bringing the total to 44.8 million doses, enough to cover 70% of Malaysia’s population.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Over 200 people were wounded, including 47 suffering serious injuries, as two metro light rail trains collided in a tunnel in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur on Monday, media reports said.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. local time as an empty train collided head-on with another one carrying 232 people on the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) line at an underground section near the KLCC station outside the Petronas Towers, media reports quoted Malaysian transport minister Wee Ka Siong as saying.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — A worsening coronavirus outbreak in Malaysia has sparked alarm and is spilling over into neighboring Thailand, which recently discovered a more infectious variant in its south believed to have come from Malaysia.

Malaysia has experienced a rapid climb in new cases since April that has strained its hospitals and prompted the government to impose a near lockdown until June 7.
