KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) — Malaysia has called on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to continue to enhance cooperation in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector with South Korea to further accelerate digital economy in the region.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia is hoping that the new United States (US) administration can bring changes to the Israel-Palestine issue, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.

“We are monitoring the political development and changes in US administration especially on Palestine and other matters.

“We are hoping that there will be changes…and we have also read previous statements, which we believe would bring a new light to the Palestine-Israel situation,” he said during Question Time at the Parliament (Dewan Rakyat) sitting today.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s exports of palm oil products to the United States generally do not encounter any problems except for the trade restrictions imposed on palm oil from FGV Holdings Bhd from Oct 1, 2020, said Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.

“Hence, for now the restrictions imposed on Malaysian palm oil products by the US do not have a significant impact on the sector.

KUALA LUMPUR,  Nov 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s stance in supporting the formation of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state has always been clear and consistent, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.

In a statement issued here today, Kamarudin said the country’s stance is in line with the United Nations’ (UN) resolution on the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states with Jerusalem as the capital.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, facing a challenge from the opposition and dissent within his coalition, on Saturday urged lawmakers to pass the 2021 budget to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Malaysia has seen a resurgence in infections that is battering the economy, with the number of cases more than doubling in the past month.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia Airlines flight MH8496 departed Subang Air Base on Thursday, carrying the third batch of the Malaysian Battalion 850-8 (Malbatt 850-8) for a peacekeeping mission under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The group comprises 215 officers and peacekeepers led by Joint Force Commander, Lieutenant General (RMAF) Yazid bin Arshad. 

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday denied promoting violence by saying that Muslims have a right to “kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past” and criticised Facebook and Twitter for taking down his posts.

Mahathir, 95, a respected leader in the Muslim world, posted the comments on his blog, Twitter, and Facebook on Thursday, saying he believed in freedom of expression but that it should not be used to insult others.

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 30 (AP/PTI) The key ally in Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's coalition has called for general elections to be held to establish a stable government once the coronavirus pandemic subsides, in a new snag to his fragile hold on power.

Muhyiddin, who took office in March, has only a two-seat majority in Parliament and is being challenged by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who recently alleged he has majority support of lawmakers to form a new government.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The airline industry will not be able to slash costs sufficiently to neutralise severe cash burn and avoid bankruptcies and preserve jobs in 2021, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In its new analysis, IATA reiterated its call for government relief measures to sustain airlines financially and avoid massive employment terminations.

The trade association of the world’s airlines also called for pre-flight COVID-19 testing to open borders and enable travel without quarantine.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) — The French Embassy in Malaysia on Wednesday said France does not favour or stigmatise any religion and it guarantees their peaceful co-existence within the laws and principles of the republic, amid calls by Muslims to boycott French products. 

The embassy, in a statement here, said President Emmanuel Macron did not target the Muslim community in France but only an ideology – radical Islamism  – that should be isolated and fought.
