India: Gujarat minister, BJP MLA test positive for coronavirus

Ahmedabad, Sep 15 (PTI) A minister in the Gujarat government and a BJP MLA on Tuesday said they have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet, Gujarat Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Jayesh Radadiya said he has contracted the infection and is home quarantined.

"My coronavirus report is positive. I am currently home quarantined and my condition is stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last one week should also get themselves tested," Radadiya said in a tweet.

India: 100 paramilitary personnel died due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) A total of 100 paramilitary personnel have died due to the coronavirus in the country so far, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the data in respect of state police personnel who died due to COVID-19 is not maintained centrally.

Of the 100 deaths reported, as on September 10, as many as 35 were from the CRPF, 24 from CISF, 23 from BSF, seven from ITBP, six from SSB and five from Assam Rifles, he said replying to a written question.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tests positive for coronavirus

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and has gone into self-isolation.

Sources said that over the past few days, he visited the official residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, met Health Minister Satyendra Jain and held meetings with education department officials.

India: Corona +ve former CM Kalyan Singh's condition stable

Lucknow, Sep 15 (PTI) The condition of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh who has tested positive for coronavirus is stable, a hospital official said on Tuesday.

Singh, 88, had complaints of fever, dry cough and breathlessness, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) director R K Dhiman had said on Monday.

The former chief minister was admitted to the SGPGI at 6.30 pm after he tested positive for COVID-19, Dhiman had said.

India: Kolkata Metro resumes services after over 5 months

Kolkata, Sep 14 (PTI) Metro rail services in Kolkata resumed on Monday after a gap of more than five months, a senior official said.

The regular services were suspended on March 23 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Special trains, however, were run for NEET aspirants and their guardians on Sunday.

"Services have resumed at 8 am and around 3,000 people have commuted in the first two hours," Kolkata Metro Railway General Manager Manoj Joshi told PTI.

Indian HM Amit Shah readmitted to AIIMS – 3rd time within a month and half

Delhi; 14 Sep 2020 (UMMN): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been readmitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday, nearly two weeks after he was discharged from the hospital. Shah has been undergoing post-Covid-19 care and was having breathing difficulty.

55-year-old BJP leader was tested positive for coronavirus, and was admitted to Medanta – a private hospital in Gurgaon on August 2.

UAE records highest daily rise in coronavirus cases

13 Sep 2020; MEMO: The UAE reported 1,007 new coronavirus cases, the country’s Health Ministry said on Saturday, the highest daily spike since the first case was reported in the country, Anadolu Agency reported.

The total number of cases has rose to 78,849, including 68,983 recoveries, a ministry statement said.

It added that at least one more fatality was reported over the past day, bringing the country’s death toll to 339.

Israel set to impose restrictions as virus cases soar

12 Sep 2020; MEMO: With over 4,300 more coronavirus cases reported on Friday, the steady rise in infections in Israel since June shows no signs of abating, Anadolu Agency reports.

According to the Health Ministry, 4,388 new cases over the past 24 hours raised the overall count to 146,542, including 1,077 deaths and 111,539 recoveries.

At least 489 patients are in critical condition, 180 in moderate condition, and 134 are on respirators, the ministry said.
