India: Woman found dead with no clothes in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Jul 20 (PTI) The body of a 50-year-old woman was found naked with hilt mark injuries in a village here, police said on Tuesday.

The family members of the woman have alleged rape before murder.

The victim had taken some goats for grazing in a forest on Monday, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Pratap Singh Chauhan said, adding her body was found in a pool of blood around midnight.

A case of murder was registered at Tindwari police station against unknown persons and the body was sent for postmortem.

India: Sacrificial goats sell at rate offered by shrewd sellers

 Kanpur: "Take a total of seven thousand rupees for above one-year-old seven-kg male goat," said a shopper but the goat seller refused vehemently. He looked at another seller who also refused. The third seller was also not easy to deal with.

Disturbed with the delay in a deal that worried buyer thought it was better to pay eight thousand rupees and take away the not-so muscular goat.

However, the Sarsaul-based vendor, under the strong urge of avarice, said to finalise the deal by paying two hundred rupees more. Thus the bargain was completed.

Kanpur: Inspection, order, maintenance and plan are the appropriate words swirling for the past four years.Required improvements of the inter-state Jhkarkatti bus depot remains a distant dream.

However, R Singh, ARM, Bus Depot, said that the development work got halted due to the bridge construction. Passengers' troubles were resolved from time to time. A letter for maintenance of the outside road was sent to the officers concerned.

India: Minor girl raped by man in UP's Mau

Mau (UP) Jul 17 (PTI) A one-and-a-half-year old girl was allegedly raped by a man here, police said on Saturday.

The man took the minor girl away on the pretext of buying her toffees on Friday night. He took her to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her. He later left the girl outside her house and fled, police said, quoting the complaint from the victim's family.

According to the police, a crowd immediately gathered at the spot and the man was also identified. The police reached the spot and later arrested the accused, officials said.

India: Kanwar Yatra cancelled in UP after SC intervenes

Lucknow, Jul 17 (PTI) The annual Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh has been cancelled this year, a senior government official said here on Saturday night.

The development came a day after the Supreme Court said it cannot allow the Uttar Pradesh government "to hold 100 per cent physical Kanwar Yatra in view of Covid", stressing that sentiments, including religious, are subservient to the Right to Life.

India: BSP to begin campaign to woo Brahmins ahead of UP polls

Lucknow, Jul 18 (PTI) Ahead of the 2022 UP Assembly elections, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday said the Brahmins will not vote for the BJP and her party will begin a campaign from Ayodhya next week to "awaken" the community.

Speaking to the media here, Mayawati said she is fully assured that the people of the "Brahmin community will not get misled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and vote for the party in the upcoming elections".

India: Sunday afternoon passes out without rain despite forecast

Kanpur: Rain did occur in the morning on Sunday but the forecast of thunderstorms and rains did not bring downpours at least up to 3 p.m. and after the evening.

Though this time the maximum temperature of the day remained at 30 degrees Celsius. The real feel shade was declared at 37°Celsius by the weather office here.

Indeed, the cloud cover was recorded hundred per cent but it did not cool down to drizzle. The people waited with much longing that the rain would lash at to lessen the humid conditions.

India: Traffic Signal Countdown Timer rules at Kanpur city's two crossings

Kanpur: Strangely enough, only two screens of the timer display remain functional while the other 62 road crossings either the timers are inactive or its settings are faulty.

The height of the matter is that the riders are not able to understand as to which crossing manages the operation of the traffic through the timer or which crossing lets the vehicle pass without the time indicator.

This confusion irks the people moving on the road crossings. Countdown timers are digital displays to indicate the time requiring for the next change of signal sequence.

India: Man gets death penalty for raping, killing minor in UP

Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 15 (PTI) A court here has sentenced a man to death for raping and killing a 12-year-old girl.

Special Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Court) Judge Pallavi Agarawal also slapped a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh on the convict, Harendra.

The girl had gone to drink water in Harendra's house on February 25 this year when he raped and killed her.

India: Offer Eid-ul-Azha prayer as per Covid guidelines: Qazi

Kanpur: Given the forthcoming Eid ul Azha prayer the religious heads have appealed to the Muslims to offer special prayer as per guidelines of the state government.

However, Sahar Qazi Mushtaq Ahmad Mushahidi said the Muslims should offer Eid prayers by the numbers fixed by the district administration.

In the meantime, it has come to the notice that members of Eidgah Management Committee and Qazi Abdul Quddoos Hadi had met the police commissioner lately.

Preparations for the special Eid prayers have been going on, it is also learnt.
