India: 'Jungle raj' prevailing in UP: Mayawati

Lucknow, Jul 10 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government over law and order, saying a jungle raj is prevailing in the state as violence marred the panchayat polls and women faced indecent behaviour.

Mayawati's comments have come as the Opposition has slammed the state government over incidents of violence in the run-up to the polls for the block panchayat chief.

India: Unhygienic conditions at Kanpur's Hallet Hospital enrages commissioner

Kanpur: What caused the Divisional Commissioner to visit Hallett Hospital on Friday morning was clear. He wanted to check the administrative procedures of the hospital from every aspect.

He was utterly displeased with the lack of improvement here. This poor most absorbed him into surprise because his earlier instructions were not followed a bit more.

Though his Friday's 10.50 a.m.visit was not the first one, it was certainly his another visit to study the condition exactly.

India: Shortage of vaccines hits Kanpur once again

Kanpur: Shortage of the vaccine once again hits the city. Though the Health Department has informed of the problem to the state government, the vaccine has so far not reached here.

Kanpurites had to face similar problems at the end of June.

Perhaps the mega vaccination programme was postponed due to this cause from July.

As a result, the crowd at the vaccination centres has comparably increased. Queues are lengthening, the uproar is also on the rise. Discontented people are not able to understand the cause behind the delay.

India: Temple priest killed by man in UP

Sambhal (UP), Jul 9 (PTI) A temple priest was allegedly killed by a man over some dispute in the Asmoli area here, police said on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra said the body of 50-year-old Mahant Bharat Giri was found in a temple in Gumsani village on Friday morning.

Police said they arrested a man, identified as Monu Balmiki of the same village, for killing Giri by hitting him with an iron rod due to some dispute.

A probe into the matter is on, they said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, police said.

India: Clouds on horizon, sky tests patience for rains in Kanpur

Kanpur: Warm and humid weather continues despite the forecast of rains and thunderstorms on Friday.

The weather reported that there would be thunderstorms in the afternoon. But neither the rains nor the thunder comes about in the afternoon. What disturbs is intense humidity. 

Strangely, clouds persisted till the afternoon but no drops of rain occurred. The real feel of the temperature remains at 37 degrees celsius after 3 O'clock. 

India: Minor gangraped in UP's Shahajahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), July 8 (PTI) Two youths allegedly raped a teenaged girl in a village here, video-graphed the act and posted it on social media, police said on Thursday.

One of the accused, Akash, was arrested in the incident that took place on May 22 while his co-offender, Sonu, has absconded, they said.

They uploaded the video online on Wednesday and the 17-year-old girl's family saw it. They reached the house of one of the accused, who threatened them, Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Bajpai told PTI.

India: Commissioner fixes deadline to finish Chakeri airport terminal work

KANPUR: Incomplete work of the Chakeri airport's new terminal building led the divisional commissioner to issue a deadline of September, this year.

Flights for Delhi and Mumbai are operative but other air carriers have also shown interest in beginning flight from here. 

It is expected that as many as ten cities will be linked with the flight the following completion of the terminal work.

Apron for parking six planes is required at this airport. Install the location of the ALS system for night landing is also a requirement here. 

India: Unnao police trace missing Circle officer at Kanpur hotel

Kanpur: Trackless, traceless or missing police officer was located in the city's hotel on Tuesday night. It is after finding out that location the police department heaved a sigh of relief. Even the family members also were relieved following this information.

Posted as a Circle officer in the Unnao district, he was reported to be missing for the past several days. He was told to have taken a leave from the office and his family members were anxious due to his missing report.

India: Bada Chauraha & Parade road in Kanpur to close for metro work

Kanpur: With the green signal to the second phase of the underground Metro project, the traffic on the Bada Chauraha crossing and the Parade road will be closed.

To avoid traffic trouble the diversion plan of the vehicles will be prepared by the joint team of the Nagar Nigam, Traffic Police and the Metro project officers. 

Around one hundred meter patch will be used on both the roads for excavation and other related works.

India: Uttar Pradesh to allow Kanwar yatra this year

Lucknow, Jul 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government will allow the annual Kanwar Yatra in the state from July 25 and officials have been asked to coordinate with neighbouring states to ensure Covid guidelines are followed, a senior official said on Wednesday.

'Kanwariyas' (devotees of Lord Shiva) collect water from River Ganga at Haridwar to offer at Shiva temples in their areas as part of the yatra.

Uttarakhand has cancelled the yatra this year citing the pandemic.
