India: Average students glad at securing ample marks in ISC, ICSE

Kanpur: Toppers are disappointed while the average students are happy at their results. The average students were declared pass based on the previous year's performance. Where internal examinations held the marks fluctuated. The results of both the classes were declared on Friday.

Class 10th and 12th students belonging to the Council for the Indian Schools Certificate Examinations have secured marks without appearing at the examinations.

India: BSP's Brahmin outreach starts from Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Jul 23 (PTI) A Rajya Sabha MP and BSP supremo Mayawati's close aide Satish Chandra Mishra on Friday started the party's campaign to woo Brahmin voters by offering prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi here.

Stepping up preparations for the UP Assembly polls, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday had announced that a campaign will be launched from Ayodhya to reach out to Brahmin voters and urged the community not to be "misled" by the BJP.

India: SP, UP Congress condemn IT raids against media houses

Lucknow, Jul 22 (PTI) IT raids on media groups Dainik Bhaskar and Bharat Samachar came under heavy criticism on Thursday, with the SP describing the BJP government as a "coward" trying to scare those exposing its failures and the Congress terming it an attack on democracy.

Flaying the government, the UP Congress in a tweet said, "Kamal' wale, kalam se darte hain (People with lotus are afraid of the pen)."

The Congress termed the raids on both media houses as an "attack on democracy".

India: Girl raped by two youths in UP

Sambhal (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two youths in the Asmoli area here, police said on Friday.

A resident of a village filed a complaint with the police alleging that two youths, Mukesh Pal and Chitrasen, raped his 15-year-old daughter about two months ago in an agriculture field, Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh said.

On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was lodged on Friday and investigation taken up, Singh said.

India: BJP leader gets life term in murder case

Sultanpur (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) A court here sentenced a BJP leader to life imprisonment in a 26-year-old murder case and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him.

MP-MLA court Judge PK Jayant convicted former State Warehousing Corporation chairman Jang Bahadur Singh and others in the murder case of one Surya Prakash Yadav and awarded them life imprisonment, according to government counsel Atul Shukla.

India: Professor held in UP for making derogatory remarks against Smriti Irani

Firozabad (UP), Jul 21 (PTI) A professor, who allegedly made derogatory remarks against Union Minister Smriti Irani on Facebook, was sent to jail after he surrendered in a court here.

Shaharyar Ali surrendered to Additional Sessions Judge Anurag Kumar and moved an interim bail application on Tuesday.

The judge cancelled the bail plea after which the professor was sent to jail.

India: UP govt to set up rural secretariats in gram panchayats

Lucknow, Jul 21 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday said rural secretariats will be set at all gram panchayats in the state and a computer operator will also be posted there.

A decision in this regard was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, according to a statement issued here.

The process will be completed in six months.

India: Retina surgical unit to be set up at Kanpur medical college

Kanpur: The State Government has given its consent for setting up the retina surgical unit at Hallet Hospital here. It is in the interest of the children's eye treatment.

It is they who had to face the retina related complex operation in the city. A sum of rupees nine crores will be extended for the purchase of advanced appliances used in the operation.

India: BJP is a 'jhooti' party: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow/Unnao, Jul 21 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday described the BJP as a "jhooti" party, claiming that it has made false promises to the people of the state.

He also accused the BJP government of spying on political leaders, journalists and others through Pegasus spyware.

The SP chief was speaking at an event in Unnao.

India: Earnings more meaningful than festival for wagers

Kanpur: Bakrid is an occasion for the daily earners to make money as there is a trend among the butchers to go to other cities for earning during the three-day festival. 

Their demand suddenly increases during the festival as every person seeks help from them.

A group of about twenty or more butchers arrived in the city to conduct the act of slaughtering the goats. What they looked for was earning some money by their specialised act.
