India: Girl abducted, raped in UP's Amethi

Amethi (UP) Jul 16 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped for five days by a youth here, police said on Friday.

According to the family of the girl, she had gone to fill water from a hand pump near her house on July 9 when the youth abducted her and raped her, they said.

The girl managed to escape from the clutches of the youth after five days and informed her family about the matter, he said.

A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and the girl has been sent for medical examination.

A total of 8 doctors including two HoDs and one senior doctor of the medicine department have been transferred from the medical college here.

India: Mohammad Fahad is national president of SP's youth wing

Lucknow, Jul 14 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday appointed former Aligarh Muslim University student union leader Mohammad Fahad as the national president of the party's youth wing.

Fahad, a resident of Kasganj, was the secretary of AMU Students' Union in 2017-18, he said.

"On directions of party president Akhilesh Yadav, Mohammad Fahad of Kasganj has been appointed national president of the SP Yuvjan Sabha," said Naresh Uttam, the party's state president.

India: Elderly woman murdered on temple premises in UP

Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 15 (PTI) A 70-year-old woman caretaker was allegedly murdered in a temple in this district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place at the Chamunda Devi temple in Buklana village on Wednesday night, they said.

On Thursday morning, a visitor spotted the body of Bhagwati inside her room built on the temple premises, Syana Circle Officer Alka said.

The elderly woman had been living there and looking after the temple for the last 10 years, according to police.

India: Woman shot dead in UP while waiting for bus

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 15 (PTI) A 26-year-old woman was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Thursday while she was waiting for a bus outside a medical college here, police said.

The incident took place outside the Muzaffarnagar Medical College, Begarajpur, where the married woman had come for a check-up from her village Shernagar, they said.

While she was waiting for a bus outside the college on the Dehradun-Delhi National Highway, two bike-borne men shot her, police said.

India: KU examinees upset at misprints in first-semester law paper

 Kanpur: Not only repetition of questions but a misprint in LL.B. first semester examinations papers have also come to the knowledge of Kanpur University.

According to the news reports, examinees participating in the fourth question paper of first-semester law have complained of a misprint in alternatives of the answers printed in the paper. They were at odds after the distribution of the question paper at the examinations centres here on Wednesday.

India: Azam Khan, son discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid; back to jail

Lucknow, Jul 13 (PTI) Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Khan were discharged from a hospital here Tuesday after recovering from COVID-19 and are being taken to the Sitapur district jail where they were lodged in various cases before being hospitalised, officials said.

The 72-year-old Rampur Lok Sabha MP and his son (30) were admitted to the Medanta Hospital on May 9.

India: Panki flyover underpass slab bearings to be replaced after a month

Kanpur: The broken bearings of the flyover underpass slab in the Panki area will be replaced after its manufacturing in Chennai. 

The National Highways officers have finalized the manufacturing of the bearings at the Chennai-based company, as was reported.

After much work on the preparation of the design of the bearing, the manufacturing tender gets moved forward. 

It was also made clear that it would take at least one and a half months in the bearings manufacturing process.
