Germans increasingly hostile towards asylum-seekers

25 Apr 2019; DW: More than half of Germans view asylum-seekers in a negative light, a new study shows. Prejudice against the newcomers has grown even as fewer migrants come to Germany.

Right-wing populist attitudes have become "normal" in Germany's mainstream, said authors of a new study presented by the left-wing  Friedrich-Ebert Foundation in Berlin on Thursday.

Two Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir

Two Kashmiri separatists, including one pursuing Bachelor of Physiotherapy, were killed Thursday by Indian security forces in Anantnag district of Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

"On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched at Bagender Mohalla in Bijbehara area in district Anantnag by police and security forces," a police spokesman said.

The spokesman alleged that during searches, the separatists fired upon the search party which retaliated killing two Kashmiri separatists.

Whitist who dragged black man 5km behind his truck executed

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — An avowed racist who orchestrated one of the most gruesome hate crimes in U.S. history was executed Wednesday in Texas for the dragging death of a black man.

John William King, who was white, received a lethal injection for the slaying nearly 21 years ago of James Byrd Jr., who was chained to the back of a truck and dragged for nearly 3 miles (5 kilometers) along a secluded road in the piney woods outside Jasper, Texas.

US policy towards Iran won’t boost Washington's influence — Russian FM

MOSCOW, April 23./TASS/. The US crackdown on Iranian oil exports won’t enhance the international standing of the US, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s information and press department said in a communique on Tuesday.

"The US has obviously made a mistake in choosing tools, if it has decided to make Tehran an easy negotiator ready for any deals on American terms through suppressing it economically, dealing a blow to living conditions of ordinary Iranians," the commentary said.

Rukban crisis may cause emergence of quasi-state

Saudi Arabia executes 37 citizens for 'terrorism'

24 Apr 2019; DW: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday executed 37 of its citizens who had been convicted of "terrorism," the Interior Ministry said.

The death penalty was given for charges including adopting extremist terrorist ideology, the formation of terrorist cells, attacking security offices using explosives and killing a number of security personnel.

Israel's Netanyahu wants to name new Golan settlement after Trump

24 Apr 2019; DW: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to name a new settlement in the Golan Heights after US President Donald Trump out of gratitude for the White House's recognition of Israeli sovereignty. 

Netanyahu said he intends to advance "a resolution calling for a new community on the Golan Heights named after President Donald J. Trump."

Defiant China to soften blow of Trump's Iran oil decision

24 Apr 2019; DW: Oil prices surged to a nearly six-month high after the US government said it would not extend sanctions exemptions to countries importing oil from Iran when they expire in early May.

Eight governments — India, China, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan — had been given six months to wean themselves off Iranian oil. Greece, Italy and Taiwan are believed to have eliminated imports from Iran. 

Iranian parliament labels entire US military as terrorist organisation

Tehran, Apr 24 (AP) Iranian lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a bill that labels all US military forces as terrorist, a day after Washington ratcheted up pressure on Tehran by announcing that no country would any longer be exempt from US sanctions if it continues to buy Iranian oil.

The bill is a step further from the one last week, when lawmakers approved labelling just US troops in the Middle East as terrorist, in response to the US terrorism designation for Iran's Revolutionary Guard earlier this month.
