Palestinians call for ban on concert in historic Negev mosque

20 June 2022; MEMO: The Higher Steering Committee of the Arabs of the Negev has denounced the Israeli-controlled Beersheba Municipality's decision to hold a concert in the city's Great Mosque built more than 100 years ago by the Ottomans as a place of worship and a resting station for merchants.

Muslim scholars union calls for law to ban insults against religions over insults by India's ruling BJP

20 June 2022; MEMO: The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has called for enacting a law to ban insults against religions and sanctities, Anadolu Agency reported.

In a statement, the Doha-based grouping said it will dispatch a delegation of Muslim scholars to Islamic countries for talks on the increasing insults against the Islamic religion.

IUMS said it will ask the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations to push for drafting legislation to ban any insults against religious sanctities.

Israel excludes Arab communities from solar energy project

20 June 2022; MEMO: The Israeli authorities have excluded Arab communities in the country from a pilot solar energy project that will serve as a model for its solar energy industry, Haaretz revealed on Sunday. This could have the effect of excluding Arab Israelis from having access to solar energy "for years," said the newspaper, due to a change in the conditions imposed by Israel's Land Authority on the project that makes it accessible only in Jewish communities.

Catalonia parliament recognises Israel's 'crimes of apartheid' against Palestinians

17 June 2022; MEMO: In an historic move, the Catalonia Parliament yesterday passed a resolution recognising that Israel is committing the crime of apartheid against the Palestinian people, becoming the first European parliament to do so.

The resolution accused Israel of applying a system that is "contrary to international law and is equivalent to the crime of apartheid as defined in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Article 7.2 (h)."

Israeli kills 3 Palestinians in northern occupied West Bank

17 June 2022; MEMO: The Israeli occupation army shot dead three Palestinians and wounded eight others this morning in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Palestine TV reported that the Israeli army carried out an assassination operation in Jenin, which resulted in "the martyrdom of Baraa Lahluh, Laith Abu Srour and Youssef Salah."

Eyewitnesses said Israeli troops stormed Jenin city and opened fire at a car killing three passengers.

UK government approves extradition order for Julian Assange

17 June 2022; MEMO: British Home Secretary, Priti Patel, signed an order to extradite WikiLeaks co-founder, Julian Assange, to the US on Friday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Assange's extradition order was passed to the Secretary by the UK courts last month, confirming that the US assurances on how Assange would be treated were sufficient for extradition.

UN condemns conviction of Gaza aid worker by Israel

17 June 2022; MEMO: UN human rights experts denounced Israel on Thursday for the conviction of a Gaza aid worker for "financing terrorism", Anadolu News Agency reports.

The conviction of Mohammed El-Halabi, the former Program Director of World Vision's Gaza office, was "a clear violation of Israel's obligation" to respect the right to a fair trial, the UN experts said in a statement.
