Tunisia: Police detain ex-PM Hamadi Jebali

25 June 2022; MEMO: Tunisian police on Thursday raided an industrial facility in the city of Sousse and detained ex-Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, his family revealed.

According to a statement posted on his family's Facebook page, the police seized the phones of Jeabli and his wife, who was with him when he was detained, and was taken to an unknown location.

India: Disappointed by SC verdict, says Ehsan Jafri's son

Ahmedabad, Jun 24 (PTI) Tanvir Jafri, son of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, on Friday said he was disappointed by the Supreme Court's verdict dismissing a petition challenging the clean chit given by the SIT to then chief minister Narendra Modi and others in 2002 post-Godhra riots cases.

Israel army rejects UN probe on Al Jazeera journalist killing

24 June 2022; MEMO: Israel reiterated its rejection of the accusations that blamed it for the killing of Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, Anadolu News Agency reports.

In a statement, the Israeli army accused the UN probe of being biased, citing Palestinians' rejection to hand the bullet that killed Abu Akleh to Israel.

The Israeli army insisted on the narrative of a fire exchange with Palestinians which it claimed had killed Abu Akleh.

Iran demands US pay compensation for slain nuclear scientists

23 June 2022; MEMO: An Iranian court decided to demand Washington over $4 billion in compensation to the families of nuclear scientists who were assassinated in recent years, AFP reports.

Iran has accused the United States, Israel, or both, of a series of killings targeting key figures, including the November 2020 assassination of top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

Palestine: Abbas condemns murder of Palestinian by Jewish settler

22 June 2022; MEMO: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned the murder of a Palestinian man by an illegal Jewish settler in the occupied West Bank. PA Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh also condemned the killing of Ali Harb, 27, in the village of Iskaka, near Salfit.

UN calls on Australia to repatriate its nationals in Syria camps

22 June 2022; MEMO: The UN has called on the Australian government to urgently address the situation for women and children in camps in northeast Syria.

UN Special Rapporteur on counterterrorism and human rights Fionnuala Ní Aolain has said she has called on the Australian government to uphold "international obligations" and repatriate Australian nationals.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's centre-left party won elections in Australia on 21 May, toppling the conservative government.

New York Times investigation finds Israeli soldier killed Shireen Abu Akleh

The New York Times is the latest US news agency to conclude that Palestinian journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, was most likely killed by an Israeli soldier. A month-long investigation by The Times found that the bullet that killed Abu Akleh was fired from the approximate location of the Israeli military convoy, most likely by a soldier from an elite unit.
