India: Man gets 10-year jail term for raping minor in Karnataka

Mangaluru, Sep 24 (PTI) A court here has sentenced a 34-year old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping and impregnating a minor girl in 2014.

B R Pallavi, judge of second Additional District and Sessions court here, which is also the special POCSO court, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Santhosh, resident of Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.

Seven-Member Family Killed In Saudi-Led Airstrike In Yemen

SANAA, Sept 24 (NNN-SABA) – At least seven people in a family were killed, when Saudi-led coalition air strike hit the family house and adjoining mosque, in Yemen’s northern province of Amran, Monday, local medics said.

The victims included four children, one medic said.

The house and the mosque were reduced to the ground by three airstrikes, said residents.

Late Sunday night, the Houthi al-Masirah TV reported 27 coalition airstrikes on three northern provinces.

Germany, France, Italy and Malta agree on migrant disembarkation and relocation system

VALLETTA, Sept 24 (NNN-Xinhua) — Germany, France, Italy and Malta have agreed on how to jointly handle migrants who arrive in the Mediterranean.

A migration meeting between the four EU members was held in Malta on Monday. The meeting was mediated by the Finnish presidency of the Council of the EU. European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos was also present for the migration mini-summit.

US soldier arrested on charge of sharing bomb instructions

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal authorities said Monday they arrested an Army soldier who they accused of discussing with an FBI informant a possible bomb attack within the United States as well as the targeting of left-leaning activists and a media organization.

Jarrett William Smith, a 24-year-old private first class infantry soldier from South Carolina stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, was arrested Saturday and later charged with one count of sharing bomb-making instructions online.

Egypt Government censors BBC and others over pictures of demonstrations

India: Gorkhas not to visit Foreigners' Tribunals to prove Indian citizenship

Guwahati, Sept 22 (PTI) The Gorkhas, whose names have been exluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, will not visit Foreigners' Tribunals to prove their Indian citizenship, a community body said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) national president Sukhman Moktan said that Gorkhas being tried in the Foreigners' Tribunals (FT) will be an "insult to us for being Indians," he said.

India: 7-yr-old girl gangraped in Maharashtra

Thane, Sep 23 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men in a dilapidated building near her school in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place last Thursday following which the three accused, who sexually harassed the Class 2 girl on previous occasions also, were arrested, Bazarpeth police station's inspector Yeshwant Chavan said.

The accused, identified as Navin Jasuza (24), Ajay Dehare (34) and Vikram Purohit (19), worked at different shops in Kalyan town here.

India: BJP MLA booked for abusing govt official in UP

Ballia (UP), Sep 23 (PTI) A case has been registered against BJP MLA Surendra Singh for allegedly abusing and threatening a government official, police said on Monday.

The action was taken after an official in the state's electricity department had given a written complaint against the controversial MLA from Baria, they said.

A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint and investigations are on, police said, adding further action will be taken on the basis of evidence.

Jordan, Egypt, Iraq Leaders Reject Any Attempt To Annex Palestinian Land

AMMAN, Sept 23 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah, Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and Iraqi President, Barham Saleh, held a trilateral summit in New York, on Sunday, that focused on the importance of bolstering coordination among the three countries.

The summit, attended by senior officials from the three countries, covered means to enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation, to serve mutual interests and Arab causes, a Royal Court statement said.

India: Collegium modifies earlier decision for alleviation of Justice Kureshi

New Delhi, Sep 21; GANASHAKTI - The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the alleviation of Justice Akil Kureshi as the chief justice of the Tripura High Court, modifying its earlier decision of sending his name for the post of the chief justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The resolution of the collegium uploaded on the apex court's official website late Friday evening said the modification to recommend Justice Kureshi to the Tripura High Court was taken in the collegium's meeting held on September 5.
