Uruguay To Withdraw From Rio Pact Citing Misuse Against Venezuela

MONTEVIDEO, Sept 25 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Uruguay will withdraw from the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance, also known as the Rio Pact, because it is being wrongly used against Venezuela’s government, Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Rodolfo Nin Novoa, said.

The announcement came a day after 16 of the 19 pact members voted to employ the pact to impose sanctions against Venezuela’s leader, Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of criminal activities including drug trafficking and money laundering.

UK Labour Party votes to stop arms trade with Israel

24 Sep 2019; MEMO: The British Labour Party yesterday voted in favour of a motion which could see Britain cease trade with Israel if it doesn’t comply with international human rights laws.

The motion, titled “Ethical Foreign Policy” was proposed by Hove Constituency Labour Party (CLP) and Birkenhead CLP, and would only come into effect if the Labour party wins the next general election and the motion is passed by parliament.

India: Two-year-old raped in UP's Banda

Banda, Sep 24 (PTI) A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man while she was alone at her home in the district, police said on Tuesday.

The minor, daughter of a labourer, was allegedly raped on Monday by her neighbour Buddhlal (19), SP Ganesh Prasad Saha said.

When the parents reached home, they rushed her to hospital, Saha said.

An FIR has been lodged and the accused arrested, the SP said, adding that the girl was serious and undergoing treatment.

India: College student gangraped in Odisha

Bhawanipatna (Odisha), Sep 23 (PTI) A college student was allegedly gangraped inside a forest in Odisha's Kalahandi district and a probe has been launched to apprehend the culprits, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on the afternoon of September 14 near Junagarh, 25 km from here and the police swung into action after the woman lodged an FIR late on Sunday night, Kalahandi superintendent of police B Gangadhar said.
