India: 6 pm to 5 am curfew in entire Rajasthan from Friday

Jaipur, Apr 14 (PTI) Amid a surge in coronavirus infection cases, the Rajasthan government on Wednesday decided to impose a night-long curfew from 6 pm to 5 am in the entire state from April 16.

The night curfew was declared earlier in 10 urban areas of the state but with the spread of infection showing no sign of abating, the state government decided to enforce the regulatory measure in the entire state.

The order imposing the night curfew in the entire state was issued on late Wednesday evening.

India: Centre making states financially weaker: Gehlot

Jaipur, Apr 1 (PTI) Hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre's economic policies, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday charged that the central government is making states financially weaker.

Supporting TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee who has expressed concern on alleged attacks on democracy and constitution in a letter to leaders of opposition parties, Gehlot said he too had raised in the assembly the issue of states getting alleged step-motherly treatment from the Centre.

India: Publishing house office vandalised, 3 held

Jaipur, Mar 17 (PTI) Three people were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly vandalising the office of a publishing house here over printing of some controversial text, police said.

Sanjeev Passbook publication manager Vijay Shukla said the dispute was due to a mention about 'Islamic terrorism' in a political science book.

The book triggered a row after it allegedly had text comparing Islam with terrorism, stating it was nothing but "a form of Islam".

India: Rajasthan to introduce new 'agriculture budget' for farmers' welfare

Jaipur, Mar 15 (PTI) The Rajasthan government gives priority to the agriculture sector and a new agriculture budget will be introduced in the state from next year to fulfill the dreams of farmers, Agriculture Minister Lal Chand Kataria said on Monday.

Efforts are being made to provide all facilities to the farmers online through innovations. Also, the department is working to provide agricultural equipment on rent, Kataria said.

India: Alwar rape case; three cops suspended, another shifted

Jaipur, Mar 8 (PTI) Three policemen were suspended and another shifted after a sub-inspector allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Alwar, an issue that was raised in the state assembly on Monday.

According to police, the woman who had gone to a police station to lodge a complaint against her husband was allegedly raped by Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh (52).

The case had surfaced on Sunday, after which the sub-inspector was arrested.

India: Rajasthan Police SI suspended on rape charge

Jaipur, Mar 8 (PTI) A police sub-inspector was suspended on Monday on the charge of raping a 26-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Alwar district, an official said.

A case of rape under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 was registered against police sub-inspector Bharat Lal (52) on a complaint lodged by the woman, Alwar SP Tejaswini Gautam said.

The SP said the accused was arrested and suspended on Monday.

India: Rape victim set ablaze by rapist dies in Jaipur hospital

Jaipur, Mar 6 (PTI) A 30-year-old rape victim who was allegedly set on fire at her home in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh succumbed to her burn injuries at Jaipur's SMS Hospital on Saturday, police said.

Police have detained two people, including the rape accused, for questioning in the case.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced a relief of Rs 5 lakh to the dead woman's family members, an official statement said.

India: Rape victim set on fire in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh

Jaipur, Mar 5 (PTI) A 33-year-old rape victim was set on fire at her home in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh district, police said on Friday.

The woman has been admitted to a hospital in Bikaner with serious burn injuries, Golupura Station House Officer (SHO) Omprakash said, adding that rape accused Pradeep Vishnoi has been detained for questioning.

The incident took place in the early hours on Thursday. The woman was allegedly raped by Vishnoi in 2018 and the trial in the case is currently on.

India: Centre stubborn, not ready to listen to farmers: Gehlot

Jaipur, Feb 27 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the Centre of being stubborn, saying it is not ready to listen to farmers protesting against its contentious farm laws in harsh weather for the past three months.

Addressing farmers' mahapanchayats in Dungargarh of Bikaner and Chittorgarh's Matrikundia, Gehlot said the way the Union government is behaving is shameful.
