India: Rajasthan cuts petrol rate by Rs 4/L, diesel by Rs 5/L

Jaipur, Nov 16 (PTI) Amid pressure to reduce VAT after reduction in excise duty by the Centre on petrol and diesel, the Congress government in Rajasthan on Tuesday night announced to slash VAT to make petrol and diesel cheaper by Rs 4 per litre and Rs 5 per litre. respectively, from midnight.

This will result in annual revenue loss of Rs 3,500 crore to the state.

India: SP will form govt in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

Jaipur, Nov 12 (PTI) Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav claimed here on Friday that the Samajwadi Party will form government in UP after the upcoming state assembly elections.

He also targeted the Centre, saying inflation and unemployment have become big issues facing people of the whole country.

BJP's state in-charge Arun Singh, however, termed Yadav's claim as hollow and said there is no question of the Samajwadi Party making government in UP.

India: Stone hurled at vehicle of ex-BJP MLA in Jaipur

Jaipur, Nov 7 (PTI) Former Rajasthan BJP MLA Amrita Meghwal was injured when a stone was hurled at her car in the city, police said on Sunday.

The former MLA from Jalore sustained minor injuries on her ear in the attack on Saturday, police said.

Meghwal alleged that some "miscreants chased her car from Biological Park where she along with her family members had gone and pelted a stone at the running car," SHO of Transport Nagar Police Station, Gayasuddin Khan, said.

India: Suspended judge held in sodomy case in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Nov 3 (PTI) The Bharatpur police on Wednesday arrested a judge, who was earlier suspended after being booked for allegedly sexually exploiting a 14-year-old boy.

Bharatpur SP Devendra Kumar said the suspended judge was called for interrogation and was later arrest.

"The interrogation and arrest were as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court," he said.

India: Constitution in danger, tension in country: Gehlot

Jaipur, Nov 1 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday targeted the BJP government at the Centre, alleging that the Constitution is in danger and tension is prevailing in the country.

The chief minister made the claim at a programme on the launch of a membership drive by the Congress.

"The forces which have come to power are communal and fascist forces. They have no faith in democracy. They come to power in the name of religion," Gehlot alleged.

India: Man held for raping elderly woman in Rajasthan

Kota (Raj), Oct 24 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested on Sunday by Jhalawar police for allegedly raping an elderly woman, police said.

According to police, the 63-year-old woman was on the way to her house on Jaitakhedi road on Saturday when the accused forcibly took her to a nearby deserted field and raped her, and later fled the place.

A complaint was filed by the woman at the Pedawa Police Station against Ranga alias Durgalal Dholi following which an FIR was registered, Ramnarayan, SHO, Padawa police station said.

India: Woman gang-raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Oct 21 (PTI) A 35-year old woman was allegedly raped by three men in Nagaur district of Rajasthan and her hair was cut, police said on Thursday.

An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IPC on Wednesday night and one of the three accused, Udaram, was arrested, SHO Sribalaji police station Shiv Singh said.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman, Sheraram (55), his elder brother Udaram (65) and Sheraram's son Ghanshyam took her to an agricultural field, where they raped her.

Jaipur, Oct 20 (PTI) Attacking the Centre over inflation, fuel price hike, unemployment and other issues, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister and Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Wednesday said the government has "cheated" the country in every sector.

Addressing a Dalit sammelan at Chaksu near Jaipur, Pilot said that in the last seven years, "the BJP government ruined the economy, unemployment reached a historic peak, petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder have become expensive and inflation skyrocketed".

India: Students' Union workers burn effigy of PM Modi for inflation and fuel price

Jaipur, Oct 15 (PTI) National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers on Friday burnt a Ravana-like effigy here representing the central government having the faces of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others against inflation and fuel price hike.

The effigy was set on flames on the occasion of Dussehra inside the University of Rajasthan campus.
