BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- In order to timely assess COVID-19 patients for early isolation and treatment, large-scale nucleic acid testing was conducted in Beijing, putting pressure on testing institutions with the rapid rise of samples.
Local hospitals are improving their testing capacity.
After 48 hours of renovation, a new nucleic acid testing laboratory in the China-Japan Friendship Hospital started operations.
Yan Keqin and Zhang Xin, medical workers from different departments of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, now work on a temporary laboratory team to help carry out COVID-19 nucleic acid tests at the hospital. Their daily tasks include sample collection, sample disposal, virus inactivation and information input.
So far, the lab where Yan and Zhang work can handle as many as 10,000 COVID-19 tests per day.
From June 11 to July 4, Beijing reported 334 confirmed locally transmitted cases, 324 of whom were still hospitalized.
