COST OF ELECTRICITY IN KENYA TO DROP WITH 310-MW WIND POWER PROJECT COMING ONSTREAM

NAIROBI, July 27 (NNN-KBC) -- The cost of electricity in Kenya is likely to be reduced from next month when electricity from the 310-megawatt (MW) Lake Turkana Wind Power project comes onstream and is distributed across the national grid.

The Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Joseph Njoroge, says this will be done by gradually pumping the renewable power into the national grid starting with 50 MW and gradually retiring thermal power plants. The 310 MW from the wind farm is enough to power up to one million homes.
